in #contest6 years ago (edited)

Spookily spookily, my pets.

What a frightful good time we had this Halloween season!

Before we look at the puns, a hint about the eventual winner:

Also, big congrats to Kesha for winning in the court of public opinion.

Let's take a look at some of the puns that were submitted here: https://steemit.com/contest/@improv/pun-day-monday-19-and-awards-for-18

That Jason Voorhees... Wait...WHAT? I just looked up Jason Voorhees (because I'm a punk who suspected the good doctor had spelled it wrong.) AND

STARING RIGHT AT ME

is Derek Mears.

Derek Mears

I know him. Like, not well, but we run in the same crowds. MAN. I'm living the Hollywood life, finding out my friendly acquaintances are horror-movie famous.

Anyways.

Good jokes.

Here's one from my wife. You can see how perfect her style is.

And if you want to join in the fun and maybe win yourself some SBD, glory and/or POCKET, do so in the comments by making a pun on:
highfalutin.JPG
Highfalutin? That's for sure a random word. I even thought "Highfalutin" was actually Highfaluting. I guess I don't know why I thought faluting was a word...

Anyhow, use it as the inspiration for a pun, like "First of all, we know the Secret service is always dressed to the nines, but did you also know the VP's son, Chuck, just goes by his first initial, and he often gets warm, so it's some Secret Service agent's job to... fan C. Pence?" (fancy pants*)

YOUR TURN

Sort:

Are you serious? Highfalutin? OK....this'll take a minute....

Yes, he is serious. The random word generator does not take any prisoners. So, are you in on this baby shower or what? Did you see the idea that "We" came up with last week? Are we cool?

The random word generator is no respector of persons!

Yeah, let's do the baby shower. Fo - Rilz. Did "we" come up with an idea last week? What's the plan Stan? hifa great idea for the baby shower. Just as long as we serve lootin-free cupcakes, we should be ok.

Great! Here is the plan. Improv and Mrs. Improv will go to overstock.com and create a gift registry there (because they accept digital currency there) and then after they have received our gifts we can all meet up on Steemit chat and say whatever it is that people say at baby showers. For security reasons I have asked Brendan not to reveal the true name and birthdate of the child. Instead they can use the the name Lil’ Improv or perhaps a fake hifalutin name would also be appropriate for the registry’s purposes.

This is a great plan! Sorry so slow in getting back to you. I've been overly consumed by a new job and crazy week this week. So is it too late for a meetup on steemit chat? We could shower improv with babies and such. This weekend sound amendable???

How about some time after turkey day, perhaps at the end of the month? This weekend is a big travel weekend for a lot of folks.

Ya. That sounds good. Should we just make a general post and invite all our steem friends?

Yes, that sounds great!

(Mrs. Improv is actually called @stinawog)

So! You of course needn't. But if you do really want to, well, we thought of a couple things we don't have that we might want: https://www.overstock.com/registries/babies/1149714016/Lil-Improv/?view

By the way, here's a picture of him:
IMG_0229.JPG

love love LOOOOOVE him! Awww. I'll go check out your registry. I have been burning the candle at both ends this week with a new job, etc. so I've been slacking on here. But alas, not for long.

I'm a slave to the random word generator.

Tell the random word generator to give me some words that I already have jokes to... Like Gafeltafish or Spumoni.

OoooWee! This one is a doozy!
I tip! my hat to you random word generator..
You really did it this time.

If ever, in my life I have the opportunity to fly in a private jet while drinking champagne that would be high fluting.

Congrats yall!

I went to the symphony the other night. The whole woodwinds section was up above the audience on a catwalk.
That was some highfalutin. (Fluting)

Well, they should have hypha--nated the names on the program next to which instrument they played. There was a lot of lootin going on, and the police couldn't decipher between the musicians.

I heard there was one Israeli citizen in the woodwind section from the town of Haifa. You guessed it....he was playing the lute.

I just heard there is a nationwide power outage in Israel. I sure hope there will be no Haifa looting. (Punmaster, I need a ruling here. I do not think this is a pun, but I am proud of it anyways but not because I want anyone to be looted. It's just because that I remembered the name of this obscure town on the other side of the planet. Am I wrong?)

Bonus points for teaching people things.

Sounds like a pun to me.
Just like the time riots broke out and me and my buddies threw a trashcan through the marijuana dispensary window and grabbed a bunch of weed.
We were high from looting.

Maybe I need to reread the pun rules.

Another glorious Pun Day Monday victory! Albeit a highfalutin one because I do not think (upon sober reflection) that it was actually a pun. My first impulse was to say last week in my comment that "I can't wait to hear that horror." Now, IMHO that WOULD have been a pun because it had a double meaning. First of all, it would indicate that I expected the resulting movie to not be of high quality. Secondly, it would insinuate that I suspected the pop star in question to be of ill repute because of the sound-alike association of the word "horror" with the expression "whore roar." Alas, I altered my final submission because the pop star in question had actually worked on a music video with the band known as, "Coldplay" and I am a huge fan of these guys and subsequently anyone that they choose to collaborate with.

I am very glad that you did not stoop to epithets. Hear Horror makes a fine double meaning. You can hear screams and bloody slicing sounds and growls... that's hearing horror.
