Current Problems Of Healthcare Information System.


The medical information of a patient should be given a great priority as far as proper health management of such patient is concerned.

A good record of a patient's health information is a very useful tool both to the patients and the medical health professionals as it helps to catch human error, track therapies, monitor effectiveness of treatments, and make predictions about outcomes throughout the entire course of a patient’s lifetime.

However, the current healthcare information system seems very bad and inefficient in this aspect due to the fact that it lacks interoperability, that is; transferring a patient's information from one hospital to another is not possible, especially when such information is needed urgently at the other hospital. In a case whereby a patient visits more than one hospital, there can be an hurdle of obtaining information from a previous hospital such patient visits, especially when the result a test carried out at the previous hospital is needed.

Inability to easily obtain such information could lead to repeating that same test that was previously done in the previous hospital and this is a disadvantage to the doctor or any other medical practitioner involved, as it slows down the medical processes putting the patient's life at risk. Also, another amount of money is incurred in the test processes.

how susceptible such information is as anyone could have access to it, subsequently leaking it to outsiders which is considered being against the Professional ethics. Obviously, the integrity and security of such information can be compromised leading to the loss of data. Also, government regulation is a barrier.

These issues boil down to the fact that a patient cannot easily access his/her medical information for an urgent use, there is little trust in data credibility, and exposure to high risk of personal information leakage is inevitable. How can you know where you’re going if you don’t know where you’ve been? Medibloc is making this possible through the use of blockchain technology!!! It's never possible to know where you are going without knowing where you are coming from as far as one's health is concerned.


Let's recap the importance of having one's medical records as a patient.

Keeping track of and documenting one's medical history is very important, but seems more important for individuals with developmental disabilities because;

• People with developmental disabilities often see many doctors and take many medications. However, documenting their medical histories and keeping them up-to-date, individuals can make the work of each of their doctors easier by enabling them to know what others are doing, which in turn helps to avoid dangerous medication interactions.

• In the case of those(patients) with developmental disabilities who have difficulty in
communicating verbally, a well presented medical history ensures easy and quick access to the needed information by health care professionals for the provision of proper treatment, especially in an emergency.

• It serves as hint to a medical practitioner by exposing him to which medications a patient takes, at the same time enabling him to provide assistance with self-administration of medications.

• It also enables him to know if an individual is allergic to certain medications so that he can be assisted to avoid those things he is allergic to. This also ensures provision of proper first aid to a patient as those things he is allergic to are known already, so special care can be taken.

• Respond to an emergency – keeping a medical history in an easily accessible location enables quick sharing of information with an emergency personnel quickly ensuring that paramedics and emergency room doctors qre provided with all the information needed (such as allergies, medications, and diagnoses) to treat the person’s condition in the best way.

• Also, having an adequate knowledge of a person’s past conditions, it is possible to deduce whether the symptoms they complain of are part of an already diagnosed illness or brand new issues. For instance, if a patient was diagnosed with asthma in a recent time and later noticed of having trouble breathing, it is possible to know he needed to be given an inhaler, but if an individual who has never been diagnosed with asthma begins to cough or wheeze, it might be needed to take such person to the hospital for diagnosis.

However, this information is not easily accessible to patients. How then do they get it?

Also, transferring the authority and management of personal healthcare data to patients, the inappropriate use of healthcare information can be halted.

High Level Of Interoperability
The ability to transfer a medical history of a patient from one hospital to another is another tool that is lacking in the current healthcare system.

However, through the proper utilization of Medibloc, transferring already standardized medical information, such as medical images or genetic information of a patient to another hospital he uses can be easily done. The only problem Medibloc is having in this case is the inability to transfer data yet to have a standardized format like medical records, laboratory results, test results, etc., which is currently being looked into and a provision is currently being made for that in such a way that various formats will be supported, instead of selecting a single standardized recording format. Such provisions include;

API/SDK for diverse formats, starting with the HL7 FHIR(Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), and also allow anyone to develop a code supporting other formats. With high level of flexibility and scalability as a basis.

Information Stored On The Platform Can Be Easily Accessed
Considering the hurdles one has to pass through at times in the hospital in a bid to get one's medical history which actually leads to a waste of time and the purpose for which the information is needed for might not be reached. Sometimes, there might even be a long queue of patients trying to obtain their medical history at a hospital that they have to wait for a very long time; during this period, some patients might lose their life and some might even be treated with something they are allergic to which could subsequently leads to their death. However, at just a click of your phone, a patient can quickly and easily access all his medical information which can be used for the purpose it's intended for, especially in case of emergency. This makes the doctor easily get himself acquainted with the information needed about a patient and further steps can be taken on such person without having to harm him. Patient-centered Healthcare Information System; Medibloc do not only provide the information within a medical institution but also outside the institution which could be helpful in one way or the other during assessment of patients.

Account For Data Researchers:
This account is only meant for researchers in the field of medicine who need individual's medical data for the execution of an effective research. This will ensure adequate use of individual's data and discourage the misuse of patients data for non-research purposes.

MediBloc Core: The capacity of the blockchain is usually restricted. As it grows wider in terms of number of users, there is a need for corresponding increase in its size which is not usually made available in some blockchains. However, the Core layer of Medibloc provides additional capacity to counter human services information misfortune, that is; it makes it scalable to counter this problem.

MediBloc Service: This enables the use of Smart Contract innovation to create a short agreement between two ends during the process of sharing information. This layer interfaces the Apps layer with the Core layer and considers "information input/yield through association with the Core layer".

MediBloc Application: This layer enables individuals to use different applications (e.g. portable applications) to get to and deal with the data.

The Medibloc's platform will make available two tokens for the efficient and effective running of its activities. These two tokens are;MED and MEDX.

The MED token is transferrable and tradable. It is also possible to earn MED points on the platform based on one's contribution. It can also be purchased with the use of MED tokens. The MP however, is not tradable and cannot leave the platform. Nevertheless, the MPs collected can be converted to MED after a three-month reservation period.

Summary And Conclusion


With respect to the profession of medicine and practice, the use of digital medical records in one's office gives an oversight of what a patient is up to and lowers liability or unecessary waste of time and efforts . As far as medicine will always be an art that depends on personalization and the human touch, advancements in technology will enable medical practitioners to take their practice to the next level of safety and effectiveness.

For individuals, one of the most important things one could do is to support medical practitioners with our health status by presenting a detailed health information about oneself to them for efficient examination and execution of medical processes in subsequent times.

Most times, all the information needed about a patient is not readily available in a hospital due to some problems, especially when such patient is taken to another hospital. However, with the use of Medibloc, such information is readily available at the tip of one's finger. It helps to maintain one's privacy in accordance with HIPAA, security, brings about interoperability and some other benefits as explained in the main section.
