HOW BIG IS MY SLICE OF THE STEEMIT PIE? - The 4000th Post From @papa-pepper
I'm sure by now, no one is really doubting if @papa-pepper can produce a high quantity of high quality posts in a short period of time. Based on the feedback to my posts, I believe that has been proven.
However, just because something can be done does not mean that it should be done.
Just over two months ago, I was completely new to the steemit community. In that time I have climbed from a minnow to a dolphin and have gained an incredible number of followers, but I think that I am attempting to take a piece of the pie that is too big to be good to the community.
Recently, @thecryptofiend posted THIS followup article on etiquette, and the second thing on the old list was "don't over-post."
That really got me thinking some more, because I had already been thinking. You may have heard me once speak of posts as if they were lottery tickets and encourage newer users to make four quality posts each 24 hour period if they are capable of generating that much original quality material. This advice was given in an attempt to help them get noticed and catch some attention on this platform. I do not disagree with this advice that I have previously given.
However, @papa-pepper is no longer trying to get noticed.
Papa has been noticed, and has achieved such things as getting the most votes in a day and being in the "top 20" users getting the most whale votes in a week, multiple times.
That may be great for me, but what does that do for you.
There certainly was a financial enticement that drew me to steemit in the first place, but this community has become something more. If you've seen the Translation Opportunity offer that I put out there, you already know that building up this community and investing in it rate pretty high for @papa-pepper, even if there is no financial benefit in doing so.
Simply put, I am going to be changing the way that I blog again.
Three main reasons exist for this.
There are only a certain number of whales that exist.
There are only a certain number of full-power upvotes available.
The value of STEEM is worth less that it used to be.
Only so much STEEM is available and each user's potential piece of the pie is limited.
For me to generate multiple articles on a daily basis that have the potential to draw away some of the votes that could have been invested elsewhere does not add to the sustainability of this community. In fact, it takes away from it.
I am only one man, and I have already gotten noticed and have been getting paid. This has worked out incredibly well for me, and for that, I am most grateful. However, I do not want my success to prevent yours. Many of you desire to get more of a payout. Many of you desire to be voted on by whale, or to even have a whale choose to follow you. If I continue to distract other users and take away from their limited amount of time available to invest in steemit, it will be harder for others to get noticed.
I'm always looking at ways to help and encourage, and I do not want to absentmindedly or unintentionally hurt or harm others.
Because of this, I will strive to submit one quality post per day.
Those posts will vary in content and length, and I will attempt to still be consistent, just less frequent. I enjoy blogging here and interacting with all of you, so I will continue to attempt to "feed" those who are following me, but just not as often.
If you like my post for the day, upvote it. If not, then move along and seek out something else. Enjoy my post if you can and while you can, and then move along and try to find even better quality posts from users who you can relate to even more than me.
You may have noticed the lack of a "Daily Adventures of the Last Bigfoot" yesterday. These comics will either continue, but be far less frequent, or perhaps I will open another account and dedicate it solely to the Bigfoot comic series. In a conscious effort to cut back on the number of posts that I make, I cannot afford to keep those coming out every day if I have anything else that I would like to post as well.
Of course, what @thecryptofiend really meant by "Don't over-post" was not to be posting a crazy amount of posts to flood the platform, and numbers higher than 4 posts per day were give as examples. However, I believe that in my position, posting 3 or 4 times a day could be seen as "over-posting." Opinions may vary, but I think that it will be best for this community if @papa-pepper rarely even posts twice a day.
If this effort provides an extra slice of the pie for others to share, then indulge.
Since many of you will most likely have some thoughts to share, I might as well ask for them.
What do you think about this idea?

If there's one person on Steemit who does not let payout of the post affect the consistency of posting articles. It's @papa-pepper. Keep doing what you are doing. Bright Day's lie ahead
I agree with that, my consistency has not varied no matter what else is going on.
I just did not want to make this change without letting everyone know why ahead of time.
You always have some good posts. I look forward to checking them out, whatever frequency you post them :)
Thank you for that!
I appreciate it @chadcrypto.
Your welcome :)
I ditto that remark. It's always a pleasure to read @papa-pepper's posts. Steem on.
I will miss your posts. And now only post per day that can be translated. And there will be new Whales and new dolphins....
As time goes on and things progress, perhaps I will again change the way that I blog here.
However, I do not want my success to be giving me more of "the pie" than I should have, and leaving less for others.
My goal will be to stick to one per day, and sometimes I'll two if I find a reason to.
I've post posts building up already, so I certainly won't have a shortage.
At least there are many languages that one post can be translated into, and plenty of older posts to choose from too.
I upvoted this for the vintage @papa-pepper wit, not because I actually LIKE that you will be posting less. (Sometimes form is better than function.)
I appreciate your support.
I may change things again in time, but for now, I believe that this is best for the community.
I am no sure, if you can affect this much with frequent posts.
There is 100000 users on steemit.
But who knows ...
=]]]
I agree, but I have seen many stats.
I've been the highest voted author at least for one day on steemit. That means out of all the votes given, I got more than everyone else. Part of this was because I had three posts to vote on.
Also, repeatedly I have been in the "top 20" users for most whale votes in a week.
There are a limited number of whales and a limited number of full-power votes.
For now, I feel that this will be best for steemit.
I think this is a great idea... I used to recommend the 4 posts per day goal as well for new users. Though, now I would recommend 1 post per day for anyone, new user included... there are so many good projects out there that are designed to help the new guys get off the ground that didn't exist 2 months ago. If you post 1 good quality post per day... Curie will find you.
Good advice.
I am glad that you agree with this transition for @papa-pepper.
I thoroughly enjoy your posts and you typically have high quality, thought-provoking posts . So the number of daily posts is irrelevant to me.
For the people who seem to post for the sake of posting, (where I, subjectively, don't think they are quality posts) I simply don't upvote or unfollow.
Thanks for that!
I'm glad that you won't mind.
oh papa :-(
Maybe it'll give me more time to read, comment, and vote on others...
I love your idea! :-) What I am thinking, though, is that maybe it is simply time for @papa-pepper account to change over to more of a curator-role. curating will balance out the way you benefit steemit. It also gives you something to do in between posts. :-) Yeah? :-) @papa-pepper curator? <3
I wish that my upvotes were worth more than a cent, as I would love to have a greater influence on the payouts of others.
Great idea, and we will see what happens as I move forward.
Really?
You think that I should get the whole pie?
