3D printed action figure accessories!

I thought I would show you guys my first batch of 3d prints after printing stuff nearly all waking hours since I got it! Of course being a nerd, I downloaded every possible action figure accessory I could find! There are still more I need to get prepped in Cura (building supports, orienting it properly).

I'll touch on each of them individually, and give approx print time, and whatnot

The SHIELD action figure stand

You can read a bit about this one in my Last post I started it late, and the stand took about 3 hours to print which wasn't too bad. It actually finished the first one before I went to bed, and I got a second one printing while I slept for my friend!

Punisher Safe

This however took quite a bit longer than the first. This took a grand total of 8-10 hours, especially since I had to cancel the first try about 2 hours in because one of the door corners was not sticking properly. What is really cool about this is the functionality of it. It actually has a working hinge that pops in fairly easily after printed. It also has some nice details of the Punisher skull on front (very faint, it will show more after painted), and also the classic vault door style. I am going to be keeping all the spare 1:12 scale guns in here!

Stormbreaker. Beta Ray Bill's weapon

Or as all you plebs know it... Thors new hammer. This is definitely the most intricate print I have done so far. I needed to make supports for it because the initial design was pretty stupid. They designer had all the "parts" in one file, and I have not yet learned how to splice a single file apart into separate ones... ANYWAYS, I started with a large Build-a-Figure scale stormbreaker for my hulk, and any other BAF's I get.

I will be using some JB weld to put those pieces together, and sculpting a bit around the handle to make it fit properly in his hand, currently it is not wide enough.

1:12 Scale Stormbreakers

This needed to be done for my normal 6 inch action figures. I actually measured a few other weapon handles and gathered they were between 3-5 millimeters so I made this handle 3mm knowing I can sculpt and paint on top of it. I made a second for my friend since he has been wanting to do a Beta Ray Bill custom figure, but there are no good stormbreakers out there. Hopefully this will solve that problem, and he will make a badass Beta Ray Bill!

Hope you enjoyed the first batch!

I am putting a bounty on SPECIFICALLY 1:12 (6inch) scale action figure heads/parts/accessories. If you can find me some FREE downloadable models for stuff like that I will give you 0.5 SBD for each one if it is something that matches those specifications!

This is fucking badass! What a gold mine for custom parts. I can't wait to see how fast you can produce them if there is no sanding involved.

Have you reached out to @lextenebris? He is quite the 3D and comic type nerd.

Thou hast summoned me from my briny deeps!

Printing accessories for action figures really is a good scale for most home-available 3D printers, I'd have to say. Miniatures for games down at the low end, particularly 6 and 15 mm can turn out just a bit blobby unless you use a very fine (0.2 mm) nozzle and really have your temperature and speeds dialed in. Things large enough for action figures on the other hand…

It's an interesting premise. There is more than a little room for creativity.

Yeah. I have been really impressed with it so far. I am looking for a filament that will print a bit more flexible than PLA and will act more like action figure plastic

You've probably been digging around in filament reviews to find something appropriate, but if you haven't seen this one yet it's a pretty good place to start:

The challenge is going to be to find something in the right flexibility range. PLA is quite rigid and, traditionally, ABS (nylon) has a bit more give to it but it is an absolute bear to work with. There are a ton of filaments out there which vary in level of resiliency, so something likely exists that fits the bill.

I might even go as far as contacting MatterHackers or other social media active filament manufacturers since I've seen them be quite reactive in the past. They want to sell product and they seem to want to sell the right product for your needs so that you come back to buy more.

So it looks like I will likely be printing action figure stuff in ABS (of course the difficult one) but I checked out matterhackers youtube and that was a great resource. There is a ton to learn, but at least it's fun.

I have a friend hunting to see if he can find some. I’ll see what he can come up with. If any.

So my endgame is being able to 3d scan action figure parts and upload schematics and be able to just print what I need.

you really set your life goals high.

Lol the thing is it really is a super crazy goal. If we can set up a database of various parts it could drastically change the customizing community forever. If I decided to sell the models it could be an amazing source of income too.

From my buddy....

There is a website called Thingiverse that has tons of stuff. It's an open source 3D designer community. There is also a free cad program called Tinker cad that is pretty user friendly.

Not sure if that helps at all.

Ive been on thingiverse a bunch already. Haven't heard of Tinker yet

peep that shit!

Man I need to find some one to print parts for the sports figures I customize, mostly helmets and face masks but I’m not sure the technology is there. There are other parts that would be nice. Is it cost effective to print parts?

Dude. It is suuuper cost effective. Literally pennies. Im printimg a working 1:12 scale pipe wrench for a buddies rockabilly batman custom. Just printed 7 shotguns (1:12 scale)

So where are you getting the specs for the weapons you are printing?

Thingiverse. I did the work for you. Found a helmet model...

Keep in mind. It probably isn't precisely the size you need. You would need to scale it down or up before printing

Thanks! I have a friend who does a lot of 3D printing, I will see if he can print one up.
