POLIS: The Trial of Socrates - Graphic Novel Cover Art

in #comics6 years ago (edited)

Here's the cover for the graphic novel designed and painted by Steemit's very own @stahlberg! He did one helluva fantastic job. I did the titling - so be sure to let me know if there's a way I can/should improve the lettering.

POLIS: The Trial of Socrates is a three-part historical graphic novel that takes place in ancient Athens. It's the story of how one of the greatest free thinkers in the ancient world was executed by the era's most democratic city. It's also the story of how Plato transformed from an aristocratic politician into the founder of Western philosophy.

Similar to THREE by Kieron Gillen and Ryan Kelly, the story will be released in three chapters, each about 60 pages long.

Chapter 1, The Restoration: Defeated by Sparta in the Peloponnesian war, the Athenian democracy has been toppled and replaced by a puppet government known to history as The Thirty Tyrants. Socrates comes into conflict with the unofficial leader of the tyrants, Critias. The latter happens to be the older cousin of Aristocles, or as we know him, Plato.

The Restoration comes to a climax when the exiled democratic forces invade Athens and oust the false government. Socrates risks the battlefield to find a young friend drafted into Critias' army and makes a powerful enemy. Plato fights against the democrats and must choose between defeat and cowardice. In the end, the democracy is restored, and the stage is set for the case against Socrates.

This is so cool. I am big on historical significance. Especially with key figures like Socrates and Plato. Is this book out, or just online?

Oh, nevermind, I just caught up. Work in progress I see.

Right. The script is written, but in order to pay artists for pages, I need to start raising some funds. :)

Thanks for taking a look!

Hey, your project is amazing!!! I love it. Ever since I read Sophie's World, I've paid a lot of attention to these novelizations/artifications of the history of philosophy. And your project is very good at it. You're also a very good artist, so 👌👌👌

I don't think I've heard of Sophie's World. Just did a search - sounds interesting! Thanks for taking a look.
