Colorchallenge Friday - Sky Blue

Colorful tents always add a festive air to any outdoor activity, they remind us of a circus or fair or maybe even one of the old fashioned tent revivals that evangelists of old used to use to attract an audience of the curious or seekers. The tent provides us with shelter from the sun or the occasional passing rain shower, they are a comforting site to those who have been enjoying outdoor activities or competition on a sunny day.

The Bible describes our body as a tent for our soul. I'm not going to try to pretend that I understand all of what this likeness entails, but I do understand some of the potential similarities. If our soul is naturally a free floating spirit, then our body gives structure and provides support and a way to anchor us to the earth. Our skin is like the canopy and the poles like bones. The ropes, pins and guidelines are the tendons and muscles that hold it all together and anchor the parts to one another. The stakes are not exactly part of the tent, but they play the role of holding the tent firmly in place, this then would represent the effects of gravity in our analogy.

A tent can be picked up and carried wherever it is needed, in a way, mobile homes, cars and soon robotic vehicles are also advanced types of tents. People live in tents and we carry them wherever we go, our body is simply another form of a tent that we, that is our soul, lives and travels with wherever we go. We color it up and decorate it and make sure that it is unique and identifiable by our relationships in this world.

But over time all tents become faded, tattered and broken down. It is the law of all nature that everything eventually declines and returns to its original and simplest form. For our body that means that one day it will return to the dust of the earth. But what then becomes of the soul? Well what happens when a tent gets old, or a house ages to the point that it can no longer be used? Do we not simply go back to the tent maker, home builder, car lot and get us a new one? The Bible indicates that this is exactly what will happen to our soul after these current tents are dissolved, we will all return to and stand before our maker who will provide a new body fitted and equipped for our new place of residence.

Where that place will be is a much debated topic and since I have no say in the matter I will have to refer you you back to our Creator. I don't think that He created us to live in blindness not knowing Him or the reason that we have been formed, nor do I think that He would have us be ignorant to what our future holds. My Bible says "Ask and ye shall receive," "Seek and ye shall find" and if it truly does represent the words of our Creator then those words are important to our lives and they can be trusted for the answers to our questions and the truths that we seek.
