I ended up finding a really cool ultralight cofee press. Apparently it only recently came out in May of 2018. It's great because it is a travel mug and coffee press condensed into the smallest package possible specifically designed for light weight hikers, but could be used by anyone.

I'll post a video which summarizes the product and then photos which show my own setup and my first experience making coffee on a river side hike.

The press which is only available via Kickstarter and some Starbucks locations. (If you want to get it at Starbucks like I did I recommend buying some discounted giftcards on Bitify).

To make this work I also brought out a mini-stove, pot set, coffee grinder, and water bottle. Of course you can adjust the setup to your liking. Grinding the beans on site is definitely not necessary. It also might be possible to bring hot water in the press itself but I'm not exactly sure how one would manage that. I was happy with my setup overall.
