So, the unavoidable highlight of the week in the #classical-music channel was the classic LOL gif by @wilfredn that leads this curation. Oh, and the other second most important news was the absolute out the park article by @tin-tin (that was picked up by @curie) on the hardships of a cellist in Pachelbel's Canon. Did I mention thisawesome gif by @wilfredn was in the comment section!

Anyway, #classical-music, go support our first superstar posting. Upvote, comment and resteem! We are stronger if we help each other out! Also, drop @wilfredn an upvote in the comment section!

Onwards to the round up. Already we are gaining new members posting in the #classical-music tag and also joining at the Dischord. If this keeps up, I'm going to have to start being more picky about the featured posts, but that's a nice problem for our community to have!

Audio and Visual

Beginning our listening tour , we start with our resident guitarists (@guifaquetti and @tomista). From @guifaquetti, we have the performances of Vasco Martins, Ferdinando Carulli andGaspar Sanz, whilst from @tomista we have the start of a new comic series Between one fern. Looking forward to more of the serious and funny!

Two orchestral posts are next on the listening tour. First, we have a performance by @musicapoetica of Gilles, Messe de Morts.. Apologies from @bengy for flooding the tag with the uploads, I will have to think of a more clever way to do that next time. Next up is a newcomer (@somtow), who has posted the rehearsals to the Siam Sinfonietta reading the score to Star Wars. Nice work, looking forward to the concert post!

From a new pianist (@giobardzero) we have a performance of Liszt's Liebestraum. Good to see we are atrracting new members and thanks to @qsounds for sending him in our direction!

Two composers round out the listening tour. @timespeer has been posting in our #classical-music tag for a while now, and he has two compositions this week. A Fugue upon Fur Elise and a piano work entitled Morning. Last week, we had the computer version of Doxology by @cmp2020. This week, we were treated to live performances of the same piece in a setting with Piano and Choirin addition to a solo piano setting. Congratulations to @cmp2020 for the world premiere of your piece!

Reading

@tin-tin, article, go read it!

We have two write ups by @bengy and @guifaquetti about the incredibly useful musical resources IMSLP and Partifi. Damn you @guifaquetti, you beat me to the IMSLP write up! Anyway, they have both been pinned to the Dischord music library as essential resources.

@zpedro and @musicapoetica both wrote articles linked to the field of Early Music. @zpedro posits the question, how much of what we have learned is really the truth about the past?. Meanwhile, @musicapoetica lays out a case for the investigation of past performance practice in What is Early Music.

Lastly, @guifaquetti gives us a write up about the soundtrack to Charlie Chaplin's film "The Dictator".

Did I mention that @tin-tin wrote an article? Check it out, it's a good read for those who are wondering what the cellist is thinking in the Pachebel's Canon.

Prize Quiz

Congratulations to @cmp2020, who won last weeks prize. It's in the mail! Also congratulations to @guifaquetti for providing the first correct answer! Sorry, the rules are for the second to win... Maybe @cmp2020 will drop you a few cents? Actually, I'll change the rules and send you the 0.1 alt prize.

What is this piece?

Slightly different rules this time! Who can name this piece? Second correct reply will win 1SBD, read that properly, to try and get around google searches it will be the SECOND reply. First correct answer gets the consolation prize of 0.1 SBD.

I just wanted to say thank you for another great curation post. I know first-hand how time consuming this can be, and I really appreciate the time and effort that you are putting into it.

Thanks! At least the community is small at the moment, as it grows its going to get more time consuming!

(*^ω^)♪ You guys are great!
Will do my best in helping support the classical music community. Cheers!

Thanks for the bot!

Chaconne from the Violin Partita in D minor BWV 1004 - J. S. Bach :)

Got there pretty easily. The handwriting and style are clearly Bach's. Then some chords could only be in treble clef, so it was probably a violin partita. A bit of tonal analysis to find out the tone... There you have it :)

A touch of overconfidence! I like it! (1)

I should say that as a cellist I'm used to Bach style for solo instruments... So I started with a bit of advantage...

Thanks for the mention @bengy, my answer Chaconne in D minor BWV 1004 by J. S. Bach

Are you just copying to try and get the prize? Are you sure @zpedro is right? (2)

I think yes, the writing is identical to Bach's manuscripts calligraphy, the work is in Ré minor or major, and the Chaconne has both tones, besides being written in 3/4. It is my answer to, i don't have another!

Yup, it is shaconne, the notes are from the arpeggio part 5 :33

good 1 benjy :)

Ha ha, okay a much more difficult one next time! (3)

Have to say the difficulty was alright, i played it in my teen years, but still couldnt figure it out becouse it was in a wierd manuscript :)
