Matera ~ Fairy-tale Old City

We arrived in the city of Matera with the help of a navigator. I mean the destination was just Matera, without specific address. And it led us to a large parking near the bus station. Everything around us looked quite different as I saw on photos: buildings, signboards, shops. We dropped the car and went towards the center.

There was some performance on the main square, so we decided to have a lunch while cafes aren't too crowded. An elderly and incredibly welcoming master of the restaurant brought us to see the photo album while we waited for the order. All photographs were black and white but that old town on them was big and looked quite different. I felt confusing and started to think that I've made a mistake, and the old town we saw in photos is located somewhere else... or mayve there is a well-known local secret how to get there.

While we were eating, the sky was completely covered with clouds. We decided to go back to the main square and look around again. I've noticed something like a small archaeological site. After Roma they didn't look impressive, but as there was nothing else interesting, we went down there. The small arch was a kind of a wardrobe leading to ̶N̶a̶r̶n̶i̶a̶

These photos were taken 2 hours later when I understood that I can spend here walking and watching much more time that I have.
