The Scream

O Grito (The Scream) is the name of the sculpture created by Ilídio Fontes, and it was inaugurated in 2001, in the Central Park, in Maia, Porto.

The sculpture depicts a screaming woman, lying over a granite stone.

I find this artwork to be very original and a much needed fresh breath of air, as it's very different from the usual statues and sculptures we see lying around in every city.

Maia is located close to Porto and it deserves a visit, even if only for one day. You can reach it using the Metro System, the journey costs around €2.00 and takes 40 minutes or so.

Over the past decade, this city has transformed itself and it's no longer the boring, almost lifeless city it used to be. This happens not by chance, but through a good investment in the transport system but also in culture, from arts to music. Even Graffiti Art is on the rise, with some fantastic pieces popping up all the time!
