Travel - Netherlands - Amsterdam to London - Hoek van Holland!

in #cityscapephotography6 years ago (edited)

After four awesome days in Amsterdam it was time to continue our travels to the UK. Paris, Bruges and Amsterdam was an epic start to a tour that would just become more epic.

We got up early, did a final walk to Vondelpark and then headed to the Amsterdam Central Train Station. This would basically be a day of travelling to get to our friends living in London.

We travelled by train to the Hoek van Holland (literally "hook" or "corner" of the Netherlands) which, to my surprise was as actual landscape that look like a hook. We got onto the Stenaline ferry to Harwich in England. The trip was quite a few hours so we ended up drinking beer and playing hangman.

We got to Howick in the evening and then took a train to Stratford Station, the closest station to our friends. The next day we would be doing London!

Tell me what you think and stay tuned for more?!

Sounds fun.

Howick, I guess that should be Harwich.
Typos happen don't they.
No big deal.

I've taken this route many times.
It is one of the better connections between the Netherlands & the UK.

Back in the days when oil was cheap, there was this catamaran doing the
crossing in just 4 hours.
It was the Stena Discovery.

I never forget trying to close the door of this ferry, while it was travelling at about 80km/ hour.
It took way more effort to close than most other doors.
Imagine opening the door of a car travelling at 80km/ hour and you'll get an idea.

The newest ferries (Stena Hollandia & Stena Britannica) do the same trip in about 8 hours.
While having a drink on of these crossings, as one does,
someone told me that these ferries are slower,
but have very big stabilizers so they can operate at rough seas.

Cheers

Thanks, yes Harwich. I've changed it. ;)

Thanks for the additional info. I think both options were there when traveled 10 years ago, we simply chose the cheapest given our limited budget. ;)

Jogging and travel? I'm in!!! When you get to Paris, scout out some running spots for me please. We will be there in June.

Nice, enjoy Paris, it is an awesome city. Unfortunately I did not have time to do extreme jogging there... you'll have to find a few spots and let me know. ;)

Awesome... Beautiful pictures
