हेरोदेस, जिसने यूहन्ना को गिरफ्तार कर लिया था और हेरोदियास के कारण, अपने भाई फिलिप की पत्नी, जिनके साथ उन्होंने शादी की थी, जेल में बंधी हुई थी।
यूहन्ना ने हेरोदेस से कहा था, "तुम्हारे भाई की पत्नी के लिए यह वैध नहीं है।"
हेरोदियास ने उसके खिलाफ एक शिकायत की और उसे मारना चाहता था लेकिन ऐसा करने में असमर्थ था।
हेरोदेस जॉन से डरता था, कि वह एक धर्मी और पवित्र व्यक्ति हो, और उसे हिरासत में रखा। जब उसने उसे सुना तो वह बहुत उलझन में था, फिर भी वह उसे सुनने के लिए पसंद आया।
उसके एक दिन का अवसर था जब हेरोदेस, अपने जन्मदिन पर, अपने दरबारियों, उनके सैन्य अधिकारियों और गलील के प्रमुख लोगों के लिए एक भोज दिया था।
हेरोदीस की अपनी बेटी में आया और एक नृत्य किया जिसने हेरोदेस और उसके मेहमानों को प्रसन्न किया। राजा ने लड़की से कहा, "जो भी आप चाहते हैं उससे पूछो और मैं आपको इसे दे दूँगा।"
उसने भी उसे (कई चीजें) कसम खाई, "मैं आपसे जो भी मांग करता हूं, वह भी मेरे राज्य के आधे हिस्से में दे दूंगा।"
वह बाहर गई और अपनी मां से कहा, "मैं क्या मांगूंगा?" उसने जवाब दिया, "यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देनेवाला का सिर।"
लड़की ने राजा की मौजूदगी में जल्दबाजी की और उसे अनुरोध किया, "मैं चाहता हूं कि आप मुझे बैपटिस्ट जॉन के सिर के ताले पर एक बार दे।"
राजा गंभीर रूप से परेशान था, लेकिन उसकी शपथ और मेहमानों के कारण वह उसे अपना शब्द तोड़ना नहीं चाहता था
इसलिए उसने अपने सिर को वापस लाने के आदेश के साथ तुरंत एक जल्लाद को भेज दिया। वह बाहर चला गया और उसे जेल में सिर काट दिया।
वह एक थाली पर सिर लाया और लड़की को दे दिया। लड़की ने बदले में उसे अपनी मां को दे दिया
जब उसके चेलों ने इस बारे में सुना, तो वे आए और अपना शरीर ले लिया और एक कब्र में रख दिया।

You are placing the right people in my life and removing the wrong ones.
You are closing old doors and preparing me for new opportunities.
The pruning process can be uncomfortable and painful, but I know it's for my good,
