Chinese Tech Platforms
EVERYTHING you may not WANT to know about China's social networks, from the South China Morning Post.
China's social platforms are an important part of nearly everyone's day. I went to a little produce store across the street, and bought four potatoes for about 55¢ (USD). I simply scanned their QR code, which nearly every vendor has, and paid using the WeChat (Chinese name is 微信 or Wēixìn) wallet feature.
When I want to buy something, I can check on Taobao and have it delivered to me within a few days - we ordered sausage and pastrami last night, I expect it will arrive tomorrow. We have ordered steaks and other Western amenities which are not available here in Yulin (but the RTMart here now carries Doritos - LOL).
VPN's still work for those of us who need them. even the Communist Party's own English-language sites use functionality from Google and Facebook, and have their own Facebook and YouTube accounts, but access to these features for the general population is still restricted for the majority of the population.
