My Main Reason For Staying On Steemit- DaySix (May 30 Days Writing Challenge)
I have not been consistent with daily article for the May 30 Days Writing Challenge and that's because some of the topics for the day are not suitable for me to write on. So you will only find my article when I deem the day's topic befitting to write about.
For today, am talking about My Main Reason For Staying on Steemit. This is in response to @dragosroua Day Six topic for the May 30 Days Writing Challenge, which has the question tag: What Is Your Main Reason For Staying On Steemit? By the way, If you don't know what this challenge is about, please have a look at the introductory post: https://steemit.com/steemit/@dragosroua/announcing-may-30-days-writing-challenge-strengthening-the-steemit-community. Also, at the end of each article @dragosroua will post the links to all the posts in the challenge (if you're joining the challenge, you are encouraged to do the same). Also, if you join, don't forget to tag your post with #challenge30days and also leave a comment with the link of your post, so @dragosroua can evaluate if you're one of the 3 lucky Steemians that will get a full upvote from him.
So to the topic of the day:
MY MAIN REASON FOR STAYING ON STEEMIT
In one sentence: To Make Money
SOURCE
When your a graduate like me with more or less no job and yet you have house rent, feeding, and bills to pay, making money is the only thing on your mind. Like when your starving and looking for food to eat, you develop a desperate urge to make money. Job hunting is a time-consuming job, but learning how to make money fast doesn’t pay a cent until you actually land a job. In the meantime, you still have to pay rent, utilities, health costs and somehow afford groceries. Unemployment benefits run out pretty fast, so there’s little cushion for many of us.
How can I earn money easily on online?
Do you know how many times unemployed graduates like me have searched this question on Google?
And do we ever get satisfied with the answers you get? Most of the times the answer is NO!
Blogging has been something that I have always wanted to do, coz I love writing. I develop the interest for writing at a very young age. I used to write short stories, poems, and articles on intellectual and social questions that intrigue my mind. I gained more interest and motivation to write when I realized that blogging can be very profitable, especially after seeing top bloggers in Nigeria like Linda Ikeji build a Multi-Million Naira Mansion from simply sitting behind a computer and blog. However, blogging is something that requires patience, persistence, and discipline. It may mean writing every day for over a year before you really start to see any money from it. One may spend one or even two years building your blog, your brand, and your authority, before making any serious amount of money.
Now whilst in the whole mix of looking for a job, searching the Internet for online money making opportunities, and contemplating going into blogging and other things that can fetch a few couple of shillings, here comes a friend who tells me about Steemit. At first I wasn't really interested in the whole idea that its a new social media platform, till he mentioned money. I had so many questions to ask as different ideas of how I could make money on this platform started flooding my head. I started thinking of getting people to write articles of me and I pay them after the post has made money. I even contacted some friends on my whatsapp who I thought would be interested in writing articles for me and I pay them. They too were curious to know how I will make money from the articles, but I wasn't ready to go through the stress of explaining Steemit to them since I too had little knowledge about it. So I immediately signed up made my intoduceyourself post, which made $3.50SBD's. I was excited especially coz my friend @jaraumoses who introduced me to it, said he didn't make up to $1SBD from his introduceyourself post. So in that same month of November, I made another post on my Birthday, but this one didn't make up to $1SBD and so I was disappointed.
My friend tried to advice me not to put my focus on making money but getting known by commenting as that is the way to start earning. But then my question was how long would I have to comment before I get noticed and start earning? Another friend @tojukaka said it might take a while prolly a month or two or even more. So I came to a realization that there is no easy way to making money at least not on Steemit. You have to be persistent and patient to grow organically and build your audience before you can earn especially when you don't have the capital to invest in bots like some do. After a couple weeks of earning $0.01SBD from the efforts fueled in my articles I started earning some money and am still growing. I know it will take time before I start earning big, but am willing to put in the work.
So in summary, unlike @dragosroua, curiosity is not reason for remaining on Steemit but the urge to make money. Curiosity only comes where there is more money to make.
