Is There Anybody Out There? A Community Challenge!steemCreated with Sketch.

Is there anybody out there?
Does anybody care?
Are the people really there?

Does anyone actually read posts and manually curate anymore? If STEEM is to be more than spam, plagiarism, bot votes and TRON arguments, I challenge you to do two things:

  1. Reply here, and
  2. Make an effort to reply to posts you upvote.

You don't need to reply to everything, of course, but engage with the people who create real content. Ask questions. Offer encouragement. Share ideas. Debate. Add supplemental information. Do something to show authors they are getting human eyes on their work.

I may have issues with the current Steemit team and their witness coup, but I still hold out hope that there is something remaining here worth preserving. If that is gone now, I may be, too.

I have always found it hard to reply to all the posts I read. Not because of time, but because I have no 'value to add'. Very often I enjoy a post, there was a time telling someone 'nice read' was seen as a spam comment :-)

Yeah, generic compliments are a difficult thing to avoid sometimes. However, I appreciate the comment here! Once HIVE opened up, most of the content creators I know and with whom I engaged regularly switched over. I hate to abandon this platform entirely, though. Hopefully we can still keep the spark of authenticity alive here, too.

I have a bit of an emotional attachment to steem, its hard to let go, but like you most I know have moved. i guess the next few months while people are powering down steem will still retain users, but after that, well time will tell

I had started powering down before I knew the Steemit sale was happening, poweredup again for the witness war, and am now powering down again. I'm not sure I want to dump my tokens and bail, but I want my options open. I'll still be in HODL mode, but with more liquid assets in casenew information comes in to affect my choices one way or the other.

I'm in the same boat, straddling the fence, trying to decide if I want to switch entirely or somehow support both platforms. All of my witness votes here are for people who are no longer in the top 30, but I'm not sure how that really impacts my daily life here.

Hive, on the other hand, is thriving with content but I'm noticing a sizable drop in the value of their cryptocurrency over the last few days as well. I'm not sure where this will all shake out, but I find it hard to pull up roots here now that I've got nearly three years on this platform.

I guess we'll see.

Price volatility is to be expected. The spike was doubtless enthusiasts. Now we have STEEM loyalists selling to trade the other way, and the usual scumbag profiteers who have been bid-botting and scamming here doubtless grabbing a quick buck. STEEM is also down as people bail. I won't be worrying about prices until both systems have had their 13 weeks for powering down and settling out.

Hey you kids, get off my dog.

I have no idea what that means.

I had nothing to add, but I was replying to a post I upv*ted.

Remember, 'vote' isn't a dirty word once we're outside the realm of politics.

I know, but... habit. And it hurts to type or say that word.

I wonder if the lack of audience engagement is due to comments simply not showing up. Supposedly, I have comments on two of my recent posts, but nothing shows up. As far as the curating is concerned, as long as my own upvotes de-value posts, I won't upvote content I like. When I have time to set it up, I'll probably switch over to Hive right along with you.

I doubt your upvote actually devalues posts. Crypto prices are fluctuating like crazy. But I wouldn't be surprised if Sun's team did manage to break the site code that badly already, either. I'm using SteemPeak for the most part now. As for comments not showing up, have you checked steemd.com to see whether it's someone you blocked?

The fact that there are long periods when posts immediately drop in value by a cent or two as soon as I upvote is weird, to say the least. Regarding blocked comments, first, I haven't blocked anyone, and the comments I've supposedly received recently are from people I have no reason to block. I know there are some people out there who use block bots, but I'm not one of them. Truth be told, a new team in charge of Steemit breaking everything isn't that far-fetched. My social media days go all the way back to MySpace. They messed with their design one too many times, and now look at them. I used to post everything to my WordPress blog, but as soon as a friend of mine recommended Steemit, I started posting my pictures here, and relegated WordPress to lengthy opinion pieces (and building my website). That was two years ago. Time to move on, I suppose, as the internet waits for no-one.

Hey, I don't know if you check replies on comments this old, but I finally found my answer. Those two comments eventually did show up, and both were warnings to get off Steemit and switch to Hive. The stench of censorship is overpowering, time to move!

Yay! Not switching to Hive just yet, then?

No ... I have chosen both. That is the case with just about everyone on here. I see no reason why I must pick sides. Rather I pick the bloggers and friends who inhabit either or both. Tho ... I have to admit, the other platform is way more interactive. Steem feels as tho it is in limbo.

Regards dear @jacobtothe.

While reading your post, I couldn't stop thinking that you were making an almost exact description of the philosophy that governs my community.

We consider practically as a requirement, the interaction between users. A valuable comment can become an addition or even a valuable complement to the post itself.

At Project Hope Hive we encourage our members and subscribers to interact with each other.

... but engage with the people who create real content. Ask questions. Offer encouragement. Share ideas. Debate. Add supplemental information. Do something to show authors they are getting human eyes on their work.

We do manual curation daily and recognize valuable content. I invite you to meet us.

Your friend, Juan.
