History of the Aston Martin DB6

All started with the Aston Martin DB4 model presented in 1958, the DB6, its sibling considered by many to be the last real Aston-Martin, was produced from 1965 to 1969 with an Italian design by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera (based in Milan). The DB6 was introduced in 1966 at the London Motor Show in order to remplace the DB5.

This model, DB6 Short-Chassis Volante, was produced in only 37 examples based on the short-wheelbase chassis of the DB5. The volante name had been applied to the soft-top of this convertible, first occasion.

The engine was designed by Tadek Marek, Polish automobile engineer working for Aston Martin (essentially know for his work on the DBR2 racing car). With the DB6, the engine was upgraded to 4.0 litre with triple carburetor delivering 282 hp (and 325 for the Vantage specification). On this model, you have Borg-Warner automatic transmission with the ZF five-speed gearbox, and for the first time there was optional power-assisted steering.

The Volante offered four-seat accommodation with leather upholstery, deep-pile carpets and an electrically operated hood. Beautiful car...

Wow 180 mph I reckon she would be a bit of a handful at that speed, especially with that massive steering wheel. Bloody nice little machine, cheers mate.

Nice design with great performances, it's why the DB6 is considered by many to be the last real Aston-Martin.

Lovely car. I like the curved front with the straight, strong backend. Every detail nice :)

I like the front, a smiling face...
