History of the Shelby Cobra 289

The Cobra 289 was the idea of the Texan Carroll Shelby, American driver racing in Europe in the 50's and automotive designer, wanted a combination of an American muscle engine with an European design.

The chassis were built by AC Cars, British automobile manufacturer with a Ford V8 engine installed in the US.

This example has a special story. His first owner Bob Kennedy found 1965 Ford 289 K-code engine and asked to Shelby to build an aluminium body of Cobra 289. The CSX 8001 were built in 22 months, the first of a small aluminium series of the Cobra 289 (generally the body is in fiberglass).

Specification

The Shelby Cobra 289 has a Ford 289 K-code V8 engine with Weber carburetors mated to a Borg Warner T5 five-speed manual transmission. The engine was recently tubed, and with only 10,000 miles, the car is in perfect condition.
