Another unique car during the Tupelo Automobile Museum Auction, Bonhams is going to auction the Barrister made by King of Kustomizers, George Barris, for about US$ 50,000.

Just as reminder, the Tupelo Automobile Museum is situated in Tupelo (Mississippi) and exposed 100 old and collectible cars from 1886 Benz to 1994 Dodge Viper for a total value of US$ 6,000,000. The museum is closed since the end of March, this sale in April is the end of 20 years of existence (source : Car and Driver).

History of the Barrister

George Barris is one of the most famous American hot rodders and car customizers. He moved after WWII to Los Angeles and began to modify cars for others persons. Thanks to his talent, he founded Barris Kustom Industries to build cars for celebreties or famous movie cars like the Batmobile as seen in the 1960s Batman TV series...

The Barrister was crafted from 1982 Chevrolet Corvette, his favorite car in order to do customisation. This car has part of about a dozen car, the frame of the Corvette was lengthened in order to made a retro-chic body with a long hood and false external exhaust pipes... A dozen Barristers were built.

Do you like it ? I must admit that it's not my style but the talent to create a car like this is rather impressive...

Specification

The Barrister has 350 ci OHV Corvette V8 engine with Cross-Fire fuel injection producing 200 hp at 4,200 rpm. The transmission is 4 speed 700-R4 automatic.

The interior is in velour with tufted buckets seats. More conventional :-)
