History of the Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France
The Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta got its nickname thanks to its domination on the 10 day Tour de France rally between 1956 and 1959. The Berlinetta 'Tour de France' was produced at only 77 examples, and this 1958 model is one the 36 examples with this Scaglietti coachwork style (single louver) (another coachwork was made by Pinin Farinia).
Scaglietti presented a prototype during the Geneva Motor Show in 1956. There are 4 series :
- Series I with no louver (14 examples),
- Series II 14 louvers (9 examples),
- Series III 3 louvers and covered headlights (18 examples),
- Series IV single louver and covered headlights (36 examples).
Specification
The Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta has an engine equipped with competition camshafts tipo 130 and high-compression pistons delivering 258 hp at 7.200 rpm. The transmission was also a competition ribbed gearbox.
This model was sold in Sweden to the two Swedish race car drivers, Sture Nottorp and Kjell Lundberg. The car was beautifully restored by Motion Products Inc (Neenah, Wisconsin US) with Ferrari Classiche certification.
