1955 Austin-Healey 100S Sports Racing Two-Seater
During its Goodwood Festival of Speed sale, Bonhams will auction this ** 1955 Austin-Healey 100S Sports Racing Two-Seater** for about $800,000, one of the 50 customer original carscof this historic racing car.
History of the Austin-Healey 100S
The Austin-Healey 100 model was produced from 1953 until 1956 on the Austin A90 Atlantic mechanicals specifications. The model was presented at the 1952 London Motor Show with a design by Gerry Coker and chassis design by Barry Bilbie, only 50 examples.
The 100 was named for its ability to reach 100 mph (160 kmh) thanks to the lighter competition derived aluminium-bodied. And the 'S' stands for Sebring, in honour of the victory at the 1954 Sebring 12-Hours.
Technical specification
The 100S model delivers 132 hp at 4,700 rpm and reaches the 160 kmh thanks to the replacement of the engine's standard cast-iron cylinder head by a Weslake-designed eight-port aluminium component and larger carburettors.
Beahtifully restored by Fourintune, the US-based marque specialist restoration company.
