1940 Ford DeLuxe Station Wagon
With, the sale of the collection of Michael Dingman, American international investor who had an impressive cars collection, this classic 1940 Ford DeLuxe Station Wagon will heading to auction through RM Sotheby's for about $100,000.
I like the combination of wood and black paint on this wagon.
History of the Ford DeLuxe Station Wagon
The DeLuxe line was presented by Ford in 1938, a marque in the Ford galaxy like Mercury, Lincoln-Zephyr (you can read my post about this black 1939 Lincoln-Zephyr Convertible Sedan, some similarities in the design). It was the standart in this time :
- General Motors with Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Chevrolet,
- Chrysler with DeSoto, Dodge, and Plymouth.
For this Ford DeLuxe Station Wagon, the production began in 1940 in Iron Mountain (Michigan, US) with a different appearance more rounded and mainly, the hinge of the rear doors were put in the front and not in the back, the famous suicide style :-). The spare tire is returned to the back and not inside behind the driver's seat. There was two wood options for the frame, maple or birch. With only this updates, sales improved with 11,000 examples sold for the model year.
Technical specification
On this Station Wagon, the engine is Mercury V8 delivering 95 hp. In the interior, you find a Ford radio, header-mounted antenna, a hot water heater, and stem-wind clock in the glove box door.
Beautiful restoration for this Ford wagon with Iron Mountain Woodie body.
