1964 Aston Martin DB5 Sports Saloon
During its Aston Martin sale (June 2nd - UK), Bonhams will auction this stunning 1964 Aston Martin DB5 4.2-Litre Sports Saloon for about $800,000.
History of the Aston Martin DB5
The DB5 was released in July 1963 by Aston Martin based on the design of the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera (founded in 1926 in Milan). Why DB ? To honour the owner of Aston Martin between 1947 and 1972, Sir David Brown.
The DB5 series is more an evolution of the DB4 than a new model one with, mostly, the adoption of a new engine, 4.0 litre (the same on the 1961 Lagonda Rapide). For the design, it looks like the Series 5 DB4, only the twin fuel filler caps make the difference.
During its production years (between July 1963 and September 1965), 1,021 examples were built.
Technical specification
This Aston Martin DB5 has an 4.2 litre engine equipped with 3 SU carburettors delivering 282 hp. Beneath the hood, there were numerous improvements compared to the DB4 including alternator electrics, Girling disc brakes, Sundym glass, electric windows, an oil pressure gauge as standard equipment.
With its Sierra Blue painting, this model is well maintained, you'll be like James Bond in Godlfinger. :-)
