Cannabis News And Politics - HSBC Admits To Laundering Billions For Drug Cartel.

Every day there seems to be some exciting news and developments in the Cannabis industry, here are some of the more recent significant news events and politics around cannabis.

Outrageous HSBC Settlement Proves the Drug War Is a Joke

I have always been skeptical on the "War on Drugs" and the claims of money laundering... if the average person is involved in the "drug trade" and got caught, they would go to jail and pretty much lose everything... unless you have lots of money to fight the system or are well connected.

Well that doesn' t seem to be the case with big banks, HSBC admits to laundering cartel billions, loses five weeks' income and execs have to partially defer bonuses

Assistant Attorney General and longtime Bill Clinton pal Lanny Breuer has signed off on a settlement deal with the British banking giant HSBC for laundering cartel drug money. HSBC admitted to laundering billions of dollars for the Colombian and Mexican drug cartels, among others. This is a violation of many important banking laws, from the Bank Secrecy Act to the Trading With the Enemy Act. Breuer and his Justice Department opted for a "record" financial settlement of $1.9 billion elected and decided not to pursue criminal prosecutions of the bank.

Maybe Jeff Sessions needs to go after the biggest banks in the US for drug laundering instead of all prosecuting people wanting to start a legal cannabis business.

Vermont state senate passes bill to legalize recreational marijuana use

In the state of Vermont, the Senate has passed a bill to legalize the use of recreational marijuana and the Republican Governor Phil Scott is expected to sign it soon. This bill passed the Democratic-controlled Senate, which would make the state of Vermont the first in the nation to do so through the legislative process rather than a ballot initiative.

The House of Representatives in Vermont (Democratic-controlled) passed the measure last week and the bill would allow those 21 and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana, two adult plants and four immature plants beginning on 1 July.

While there is no immediately clear the way for retail sales of cannabis, there was a commission created last year to study how to tax and regulate it. The passage of this bill puts the state directly in odds with the Trump administration and US Attorney General Jeff Sessions reversal of the Obama-ear policy on allowing states to decide their own marijuana laws.

Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner Continues His Standoff With Jeff Sessions Over Marijuana

Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner is calling on the Trump administration to allow states to legalize marijuana without federal interference and is continuing his nearly weeklong standoff with Attorney General Jeff Sessions over the issue. The two men met Wednesday, and neither has budged... "There was no breakthrough yet"

Last week, after Sessions opened the door for aggressive prosecution of marijuana offenses, Gardner threatened to hold up Department of Justice nominations until Sessions reversed course. Gardner said the policy change "directly contradicts" a commitment Sessions made before his confirmation.

The sad irony of the administration's new stance on cannabis is that ... Sessions Goes After “Dangerous” Marijuana, but Grants Opioid Maker Rights To Synthetic THC

Awesome information filled post. Love all the links! How cool is it that there’s so much cannabis news we need an aggregate news site. Good job. There’s a petition with over 400K signatures to get a current US bill descheduling cannabis passed. I’m encouraging people to sign it. https://steemit.com/cannabis/@choosefreedom/sign-senator-cory-booker-s-petition-to-deschedule-cannabis-here

Thanks for the kind words and sharing the link, we all need to be active if Cannabis is ever going to be free from the clutches of the gov't.

Jeff Sessions must be under pressure because nobody can act this way and against Trump's promises. I can imagine how the big companies are lobbying in Washington for the licenses. When they win it will be similar as the big pharma or new pharma.

I have talked to quite a few industry insiders about this and this new spin by Jeff Sessions, we feel its just a cash grab by the justice department and legal system. They could very well be trying to slow down the process of legalization so their industry insiders and connected people can position themselves better and take control of "their legal cannabis industry".

It will be the responsibility of the individual to research the companies they choose to buy from and support as a business, hopefully not the big "gov't run cannabusiness".
