Sex and Cannabis: A Panel of 3 Doctors Discuss the Ins and the Outs, While I Try To Keep My Composure.

in #cannabis7 years ago

It's been a whole year since I... (Utt! I have sex more than once a year, so stop thinking that right now.) It's been a whole year since I attended a Cannabis Expo.

(Although this post is safe for work, it does contain mature subject matter.)

I'd been perusing the 2-day conference schedule for a few months and the panel that I was most intrigued by was speaking about "women's sexual issues and the role that cannabis can play in a healthy sex life."

I had to really think about the way that seminar description read.

Here's my thought and answer pattern to myself on this:

"I'm a woman over 40, do I have sexual issues?"

I'm not sure...maybe...I could...I'll revisit this another time.

I use cannabis everyday and I like having sex. "Does that make me a sexpot?"

Technically, yes. OK... I can live with that.

Then I thought: "Wow more than one doctor is prepared to speak about the sexual health of women and the role cannabis plays! That's just not something you hear or read everyday."

I committed myself to attend this particular conference seminar, right there on the spot, as a direct result.

When the date finally arrived and I was sitting in my chair waiting for the seminar to start, I decided to read the bylines of the doctors who were scheduled to speak. There were 3 doctors in total. Two men and one woman and it turned out that one of the male doctors was my own cannabis doctor!

(I have decided not to name the doctors publicly because this is my interpretation of what was said and what happened and I am sensitive to the fact that this will be on the blockchain for eternity.)

Now, what you should know is that my doc is a young doctor. If he's even 35, I'd be surprised. He practices family medicine and holds specialty certifications in fitness and nutrition, which is why he supports the use of cannabis as medicine, and why I chose him to be part of my medical team. I also know that he was born and raised in Newfoundland (Canada's little version of Ireland) where, almost certainly he was exposed to a good catholic, wholesome upbringing. In his profession, he is still somewhat fresh and as a result, not completely jaded yet.

The other male doctor was an older gentleman, in his late 60's. He was also a family physician, as well as a clinical researcher and part of the Foria company. Foria is the name of a cannabis infused feminine lubricant. Oh, and this "love lotion" is made with coconut oil, 360 mg of THC and other cannabinoids according to Foira's company advertising.

It's completely edible and will accommodate those in your life who are vegan, gluten-free or sugar-free.

(OMG! Kill me now. Just strike me dead right here on the spot for what I am about to ask..."but does it still count when your crotch is high and you're eating out another person?" I wondered as I sat there thinking about how things were likely to go down, in this method of delivery and general scenario.)

I had eaten some platinum banana kush tincture on my way to the expo and I was enjoying the smooth body tingle that this strain provides. So now I was even more intrigued by what I was potentially going to learn.

The last doctor on the panel was a woman and I guessed from her head-shot in the program that she was an upwardly, self-sufficient female in her 50's. You could see life experience in her face and she was listed as a doctor of neuro-psychiatry. "Cool", I thought. "Let's see what this brain doc has to say about women's sexual issues and cannabis.

All the doctors arrived and took their seats beside each other on the presentation stage.

My doctor is in the middle, directly under the "i" of the lift focal point. The psychiatrist is sitting to the left under the "t" and the older doctor is sitting under the "l". The other lady on the stage is the mediator and the person who maintained order and asked all the questions.

The seminar begins and the mediator starts to introduce each doctor. When she gets to the psychiatrist she adds to her bio by giving her the title of "Tantric Yoga Sexual Goddess." (Yikes! I wondered if my young little doctor from Newfoundland knew that he would be co-presenting with someone so experienced in these fine arts.)

Then the mediator gave each doctor a chance to elaborate on their personal bios and set the tone for the presentation, by explaining what they thought the sexual issues are, facing women today. The male doctors both cited stress as the major issue which cause women not to be able to stay in the present moment and as a result experience sexual dysfunction at a statistical rate of 40%!

That's a really high percentage and I know that it is understated because most women don't talk about it and would never admit to it. The older doctor added that they've had different prescription medications available to them to treat male sexual dysfunction (like Viagra) for the last 20 years, but not much for women...until cannabis. This is one of the reasons that they developed the vaginal lubricant. He then went on to describe the application process which needs to occur 15 minutes prior to having a sexual experience and that it must be liberally sprayed on the woman's clitoris and labium. The THC in each spray contains 2 mg of THC and binds to the cb2 receptors for cannabis which are present in the vagina. Once THC has bound to the cb2 receptors in the vagina, the women is able to feel more, which makes achieving an orgasm easier, stronger in intensity and more frequent during sex.

My doctor was next to take a turn speaking. He talked about Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors as being a major cause of low testosterone levels in women. SSRIs, which are used in the treatment of anxiety and depression, lower testosterone levels and produce very low sexual libido as a secondary side-effect. Cannabis is an effective medicine to use because it helps women to stay in the present moment mentally, instead of multi-tasking. Plus, cannabis raises the neurotransmitter called anandamide which instantly elevates mood and will stop an anxiety attack and help a person to feel happy. He then lamented that drinking alcohol also reduces testosterone, so both women and men who drink regularly (as a means to relax and unwind) are actually lowering their sexual desire in the process.

The take home message here is that if you take SSRI medications for anxiety and you drink regularly, you aren't likely to ever feel horny.

Then, it was the neurophyschiatrist's chance to speak. She ignored the original question and went straight to audience participation. Her first question was to ask how many of us, had sex in the last 24 hours. A few brave souls put their hands up. My doctor started to look worried. I knew at that point, that these doctors did not know each other and they had know idea what the others were going to say or do...

She then asked how many of us gave oral sex to someone else in the last 24 hours...then how many of us received oral sex in the same 24 hours. With each question, fewer and fewer of the members of the audience raised their hands.

"The problem facing women today is that they have sexual intimacy issues with their partners" she proclaimed in a very self-assured tone. "Partner up with the person beside you." she ordered.

I was sitting in a back row and thankfully had no one beside me. My poor doctor's options were the 60 year old man to his right and the Tantric Goddess to his left. The older doctor immediately paired himself with the younger mediator (before he got yelled at) and my doctor sheepishly turned to the self-proclaimed Goddess...and did what he was told.

She instructed everyone to face their partners, look them in the eyes and place their right hand on top of the person's heart. My doctor tried to gingerly place his hand just above her left "double D" breast. Before any of us had a chance to even think, she grabbed his hand and place it squarely in the middle of her bosum. She then sternly instructed everyone to tell their partner "out-loud" that they respected and valued them. Then, she turned to all of us and in sort of a condescending tone, told us all that this was a form of sexual intimacy and if you couldn't say this to a "real" sexual partner, we had no business spreading our legs open or penetrating anyone. "Women have sexual issues because they don't feel valued or respected," she said.

My doctor almost fell off his chair. Some people in the audience clapped. In complete shock and in dis-belief of what I had just witnessed on the stage, I started to laugh. I know that sounds immature and I probably wouldn't have if I didn't know my doctor personally and I wasn't fully medicated myself.

Then she went on to say that cannabis, when it's ingested, heightens all your senses and will let a woman experience an orgasm at every level of each of her chakras. (There are 7 chakras...just in case that's a new term for you.) This was followed by another bold declaration that if a woman wants to raise her testosterone levels she should engage in oral sex with her male partners because semen is full of testosterone raising compounds. (I guess this statement was intentionally used in the plural and left open so as not to exclude any other types of partners...)

All the men sitting in the audience clapped and cheered.

The look on my doctor's face was priceless and he doubled right over in his chair. When he regained his composure he thanked the female doctor on behalf of the entire male population of the planet. Then he said, "I usually just instruct women to add maca root powder to their smoothies in the morning and cut back on the amount of wine they drink, at night to raise their testosterone levels and that's only if their blood test shows a low testosterone reading...

I couldn't help it. I laughed again.

To recap, on this day I learned that:

  • cannabis helps all people live in the present moment and not worry about the past or the future;
  • cannabis applied topically will heighten the sensation of pleasure when applied to the genitals;
  • a person who has a low testosterone level, won't have much of a sex drive;
  •  SSRIs and alcohol are 2 substances that will lower a person's testosterone levels;
  • and eating semen on a regular basis will raise testosterone levels, but so will maca root powder.

I can also tell you that when two people embrace, it triggers the release of oxytocin from the pituitary gland located in the brain. This is a hormone which is often called the cuddle or love hormone because it binds people strongly together and keeps them interested in their relationship. (We need more hugging and less fighting on this planet.)

I can also tell you that Fiora, (the name brand lubricant) is made with coconut oil and is basically a coconut oil infused with a strain of cannabis which contains 15% THC. It can easily be made and any strain that is recognized for making music sound great and increasing appetite, will work like a charm.

Coconut oil infused with cannabis will eat through latex and rubber so if you use condoms, take other precautions so that you can play safe. ;)

I welcome your comments and I invite you to follow me on my journey (if you dare, after reading this article).

(Please go easy on me...I have yet to reach the level of  a "tantric yoga sexual goddess").

(I'm working on it. So far, I've added maca root powder to my smoothies.)

Loved this share, thank you :)

Thanks for commenting @wallbb! I'm glad you liked it. ;)
I have followed you.

Same here @rebeccaryan :)

I found this on @woman-onthe-wing's page and I was curious
am sure glad I read this BOLDly straightforwardly written piece
I love it!

hahahah ... in so many lines I did that hahahah moments
thank you

btw .. is it just me or you have that too?
I don't need to get high to achieve that orgasm - doesn't make me a sexpot but I sure love that three letter word, too
I'd be a hypocrite if I deny that
but I guess - the credit is not just on me ey?
It always takes two to tango ;)

Hi @englishtchrivy! Great to talk to you!
Hahaha! I'm so glad that you liked it. More women need to talk about it.
It wasn't until I tried having sex after eating cannabis that I realized that a woman can experience different types of orgasms and I'm going to be 46.
So, when I eat an oil or edible made with a good strain of an Indica variety, this usually produces a good "body stone" and you can literally feel your chrakras cycling at each level...it's a difficult thing to describe in words, but you can feel this even before you engage in any foreplay. When the time of an orgasm arrives the sensation is more intense, a single one lasts longer or at least the perception that it does is noticeable and multiples become the norm.
I read an article written by another woman a while back, before I tried it and she openly stated that she won't have sex with anyone unless she's high. I thought "yeah right" until I tried it and I have to admit that I agree with her. It's a totally different experience (for me at least).
I really tried to behave when I was listening to the presenters of this seminar, but I'll tell you, there were times I couldn't help myself and I was laughing out loud.
Yes, it does take 2 usually or, a good set of batteries. :D

I've never been stoned nor have ever tried that but you also know I don't have any prejudice on that but am not curious either
I guess even when I get to reach your age I'd still be s...... active hahaha
it feels shy writing that what's wrong with me (blush)
anyway .. I've never had one that needs batteries either wink wink
guess its cause am Asian
again no prejudice nor curiosity on that
very much sexually satisfied here with hubby - like what you wrote up there when a woman knows she's respected its too easy to let herself loose
I 2nd that thought :)
Cheers! to orgasms and womanhood hahah

Nothing is wrong with you @englishtchrivy!
I've learned 2 important lessons in life that I think every person should know.
The first nugget of wisdom was shared with me by a good friend of mine who is 15+ years older than me. She told me that I don't owe anyone an explanation for my feelings, my opinions or for the decisions that I make in life.
The second nugget of wisdom comes from the mind of my 6 year old niece. She had been reprimanded for her actions by an acquaintance of my sister's after her swimming lessons, (one night) because she wasn't listening to her mother. On the drive home she questioned her mother as to who the Lady was and simply said "She has no right to judge me. She doesn't know my life."
Good girl! I thought. I'm going to make sure that she never looses her ability to think for herself or looses her confidence in life.
(Just so I'm clear, I'm the "crazy Auntie".)
Powerful stuff. :D

hahaha.. i had a hunch you're the crazy auntie
you got it - we're conditioned to not even speak the sex word
more so write it where the whole world could read :)

Exactly @englishtchrivy! I hope someone reads all of this 100 years from now and gets how hard life in this world can be in this time period. I like to feel like we are progressive but often I feel like we are just staggering out of the dark ages. If I have to be "that" woman who admits that she likes to have really good orgasms and that there is a difference that can be graded than so be it! (Forever on the blockchain and I will help all my brothers and sisters on this damn planet.)

For all those interested, I worked in Colorado's marijuana industry from the very start of it, to just last year. I moved to Hawaii to join the fun starting up here! ;)
In working there, I was able to buy Foria and try it out cheap. Yes, employee discounts exist, and they are even better when you work at a dispensary! XD

I love cannabis, so I thought, Who wouldn't love pot love? Not this guy! I was sold immediately!
In answer to @rebeccaryan yes, many of our customers who I chatted with explained how it did indeed get their boyfriends high from going down on them. And they enjoyed it also. :)
Intruigued, I just had to introduce it to my girlfriend as well. For her, it was indeed a hit! For me, it tasted an awful lot like a lubricant.
I was able to bring that relevation/concern to one of their delivery gals, and she did assure me it was entirely safe to eat it. In fact, someone in their business used it often as a direct mouth spray! Upon hearing how it is made and I assure you it really cannot get any safer, so I decided to experiment.
And, I tried it directly as a mouth spray also.
I have a high tolerance so upon first time direct use, it did nothing. But 3 sprays under the tongue was felt. I had to be sure it wasn't a gimic, and too low thc to effect anyone, so I can assure you and readers that it does work as an edible. I had visions of my tongue going numb, but it was honestly just similar to eating an edible. As long as you can get past that lubricated mouth effect.
It was quite odd indeed! :p

And yes, I chatted redfaced with many customers who bought this recreationally. From the college student, to the 50 year old Tantric Yoga Sexual Goddess..lol I don't think their product exists on the medical side, but I have a feeling it could.
Thanks for sharing your story, without it, I wouldn't have had a reason to share mine!

Thank you for your valuable input @unfaakinreal. I've been reading about Foira for about 2 years and loosely followed this companies progression over that time. When I looked at the companies info online, I found a retail price of $76 USD for a 30 ml spray bottle. This is why I suggested that a person could, in fact, make their own out of an infused coconut oil. I also feel compelled to clarify for folks that people are using this product a few different ways. They are in inadvertently eating it, if they apply it and then engage in oral sex, but my sense of the matter is that when it's applied topically to the genitals it also creates an effect of heightened pleasure for a woman (anyways). A woman doesn't have to eat, vape or smoke cannabis in addition to the topical application. My recommendation to any woman, is to eat cannabis about 2 hours before you want to have sex and use the topically 15-20 minutes right before engagement starts. From my perspective, once you try having sex (as a woman) completely stoned...you'll never go back. I read an article that another woman wrote on the subject a few years back and she openly stated that she won't have sex now, unless she's stoned.
I still say "never say never" but I can completely understand. The sensation, the intensity, the frequency of climax are all positively enhanced. You are completely ruined once you realize and experience the difference. Why would anyone go back to dull and mediocre when you can have 7 chakra whirling and be transported to another dimension.
It sounds fanciful, but I'm actually not joking about this.
It would be like going from driving a station wagon to driving a Ferrari.

I need a new bumper sticker:
My other car is a multi-dimensional space rocket! 💚
Hahaha!
Great input! I will site you as a source on my next 420 bedroom adventure!

Hahahaha! I MUST HAVE that bumper sticker. LMFAO!
Who wants to drive a slow wagon when you can drive a stick with turbo.
(I've got to quit while I'm ahead...they'll be no room left on my little smart car.)

@rebeccaryan
I'm speechless. Is it-safe-to say I am tongue tied at this moment. Ha
In following @ rebeccaryan, it never crossed my mind that I would be educated as to the value of cannabis in my sex life. Firstly, I am way out of my league to even try to add a little more to your revealing revelations. Eye openers to me. If I was there, I would have just fainted. Ha Just kidding.
In my youth, sex was nearly a curse word. Never was a generation of young people less informed about sex and the need to know. Now I can understand why so many divorces took place with many couples after a few short years of marriage. Truthfully, I had no understanding of a woman and what a man should know.
With your short, though very long for you on the subjects prep, (oops, there I go again, two bad words). Ha
Oh, I give up. Thank you for this very informative, may I call it class. When can I sign up for the next class?
Your older student thanks you
Francis

Hi @francisk!
Thanks for your comments. I apologize for the jarring shock on this topic.
If most people were honest they would also report not knowing how their bodies or the opposite gender's body works. I know I certainly didn't.
This is why I am trying to share this info and talk about it. It is definitely a topic that takes most people out of their comfort zones and it can be embarrassing.
Thanks for all your support Francis. I don't know when the next class will be or what the subject will be. LOL!
I generally am writing about what's happening in my life and my life is like a 3 ring circus most days. :D

@rebeccaryan
Thank you for your reply and upvote. I am humbled.
We agree. The topic of sex as it relates to the human body and the well being of each of us, is too important not to study. So you get a thumps up for your willingness to put yourself in a position of leadership. Most, including myself, would be much too shy. lol

Francis

Well Francis, I'll always be straight up and honest with you. Life is too short to live in misery and or pain and if I find something that can make our world turn a little easier, I will share it. :)

Thank you
Francis

Nothing better than sex and cannabis

I could not agree more @mystifact!
Welcome to Steemit. I have followed you. :)

Thank you for sharing the account of the seminar. You're hilarious, and I love your candor. So curious about the intersection of cannabis and sexuality. Much appreciated.

Hi @jhermanbeans,
Thank you. Apparently, there is a long history of cannabis use and sexuality originating from India. The female doctor eluded to this and that's why she was taking about learning to have different types of orgasms related to each chakra. Fascinating.

That's great information. Will definitely be doing more reading. Thanks for getting back to me.

Thanks for the post, informative gives me a new perspective on #cannabis

Excellent. Then, it was worth attending the seminar and figuring out how I was going to share the information so that people would find it helpful. :)

as always, I laughed aloud reading your post! Interesting information and entertaining to boot. I wish you had asked your question to the panel ;-) and it's a good one I might add.

Hahaha! It kind of boarders on cannibalism. An exceptional grey area when you are Vegan. LOL

@rebeccaryan such a fun story and had us wondering are we "sexpots" too? Well yes we'll put our hands up, my partner and I love to indulge. Here's to more hugging and female sexual liberation! <3

Haha! I'm glad you enjoyed it and nice to learn that other couples use the herb together too.

Wow awesome post Rebecca, fascinating. I knew a little of this but never knew, for example, that you can apply it topically to your 'lady area' for heightened pleasure... I will keep that in mind... :-) Thanks so much for sharing your cannabis knowledge, I know a lot more since meeting you and I consider it invaluable knowledge!

Hi @woman-onthe-wing! Yes. We have receptors all over our bodies for cannabis, including on our genitals, skin and even on our saliva glands.
So, people who have trouble withe neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia and arthritis do quite well when they apply a lineament topically.
Men do better when they vape prior to sex, women do better when they eat cannabis about 2.5 hours before hand. Eating provides stronger effects and for most women, we have a really difficult time staying focused in the present moment because of all the multi-tasking we do. Cannabis keeps you in the moment and heightens all your senses including touch.

Interesting article. I've been thinking about going back to smoking pot in my old age, not for medicinal reasons but because at this point, why not. People tell me to use cannabis oil for my cancer, but I always enjoyed the ritual of smoking it.

Hi @baerdric! Good to chat with you.
Have you tried a vapourizer yet? I find that I can taste a lot more flavours through a good vapourizer than I can when I partake in a joint. I rarely smoke. My preferred method is eating it.

I can't even find any. It's still illegal here and I kinda look like a cop.

I have a wonderful back porch now and I just thought it would be nice to sit out there and smoke a pipe in the afternoons. I was going to try tobacco, but I don't want to stimulate my old cigarette addiction.

What country are you in?

Kentucky USA
They have some medical cannabis, but not for me.

Really? I have never met anyone using cannabis who, when you really drill down, isn't partaking in the herb to improve the quality of their life. I'll also add that it's fantastic to help regulate blood sugar and keep it even.
