I am looking forward to seeing your butterflies and other insects!

Here is mine for today of the beautiful Monarch butterfly.

Did you know that Monarchs need to have a body temperature of at least 86 degrees or they can't fly? So if you see them sitting in the sun it is probably to warm them up.

Did you know that Monarchs use their antennae to smell the nectar in flowers? After getting a good whiff the monarch will taste the nectar with its feet. They have receptors in their feet called, "tarsi" which allows them to do this.

Did you know that Monarchs lay eggs on one plant only? Females lay their eggs only on the milkweed plant because the leaves of this plant are the only leaves their caterpillars will eat.

Did you that Monarchs lay many eggs in one day and only one at a time? They can lay up to 250 eggs a day on the underside of the milkweed plant leaves.

This is a Monarch in flight, going to check out a different flower to see what it smells and tastes like before sipping its nectar.

Thanks for stopping by!

All photos are my own.

I live in the Dallas area of Texas in the flyway of the Monarchs. Every October we see them in our city - some years more than others. I have green milkweed in my yard. It’s native to Texas. Lovely captures!

Thank you @whatisnew! 😀 Much appreciated!

Monarchs are so beautiful. I only can admire them on photos because they do not encounter in Europe as far as I know.

My pleasure @nelinoeva!

At least you are able to see Monarchs with all of the wonderful Monarch photos everyone has posted. Just like I love being able to see other butterflies and insects that we don't have here in the U.S. : )
