Jahangirnagar University is one of the only universities and the only full public university in the country. The company is located in the Savar area near Dhaka, with an area of about 697.56 acres. Although the university was established in 1970, its activities began fully in 1972. This university has arts and humanities, mathematical and physicist, social science, biology, business education and law faculty and 4 institutes. Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Farzana Islam Vice-Chancellor Dr. Farzana Islam served as the first female Vice-Chancellor of Public University of Bangladesh from March 2, 2014.
Jahangirnagar Muslim University was established in 1970.   It was named in Jahangirnagar University in 1973.  It is named after the name of the Mughal period of Dhaka, "Jahangirnagar".  In the first batch, with 150 students, 4 Sections are opened; The departments are economics, geography, mathematics and statistics.  On 12 January 1971, the Governor of East Pakistan, Jahangirnagar, was inaugurated. Earlier on 24 September 1970, Professor Mofiz Uddin was appointed the first vice-chancellor of the University. Later, the Vice-Chancellor of the University was named as the Vice-Chancellor of the University Syed Ali Ahsan, folk literature writer Mazharul Islam, writer Zillur Rahman Siddiqui, AFM Kamaluddin, Amirul Islam Chowdhury, economist Abdul Baius, Alauddin Ahmed, Khandker Mustahidur Rahman. Professor Sunil Kumar Mukhopadhyay, writer Hayat Mamud, writer Humayun Azad, writer Salim Al Deen, poet Mohammad Rafiq (newly retired), Professor Mustafa Nurul Islam, Abu Rashid Motinuddin, Political Scienceian Dilara Chowdhury, historian Bazlur Rahman Khan, economist And political personality Anu Muhammad.
Students of this university participate in the liberation war. After the War of Liberation, academic activities began in full swing. The number of divisions continued to increase. The first anthropology and business administration department was established in Bangladesh. The only Department of Archeology in Bangladesh is also in this university. Initially, with the passing of two faculties, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities was opened the following year. The law and justice department under the Faculty of Law began to walk in 2011. The first president of the department. Shahabuddin. In 2015, the first batch of law and justice division LLB is completed. Bangabandhu Comparative Literature and Culture Institute started its activities from the academic year 2017-18.  At present, there are 6 faculties in the university.
It is the smallest among the students of the autonomous major universities of Bangladesh. But the students of this university played a significant role in various national and internal movements. During Ershad government, students participated in the movement for education movement and anti-autocracy movement in the 1990s. In 1998, Chhatra League leader Manik and his companions accused of rape were expelled in front of students' movement. On returning again, on August 2, 1999, the accused were repatriated in a coup of the students. This movement is known as South Asia's biggest anti-sexual violence movement. After the 2005 anti-sexual assault campaign against four teachers of the university in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010. Apart from this, student organizations have been protesting for various demands including setting up of democratic rights, supply of water, financial transparency, stop the increase in wages and dining charges at different times.
The activities of university teachers and students are significant in the field of the university. Jahangirnagar University is very rich in basic science subjects. Apart from the excavation of archaeological department in Wari and Bateshwar, the contribution of plays and dramatics in domestic drama, and the guidance of the department of anthropology in the field of academic anthropology was well-known.
Location and Campus
Jahangirnagar University is located 32km away from the capital on the west of Dhaka-Aricha Highway. It covers an area of 697.56 acres (2.8 square kilometers). The university campus is surrounded by the National Memorial in the north, Savar Cantonment in the north-east, Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center in the south and a large dairy farming firm (Dairy Farm). The University's Shyamal environment and biodiversity are very delightful. The numerous water bodies of the university have developed it as a migratory bird sanctuary, which makes it a favorite place for bird watching.
