Feeling sad today...where is the Steem community?!

I don't use any other social media sites like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, because I thought it's draining there, trying to manage all those accounts at once and uploading a photo every hour just to show people what am up to.

I use @busy to post some of blogs and short contents sharing about about my day. Sometimes I use @partiko (which by the way some features no longer work, I hope @cryptotalk is doing okay and hopefully partiko's full features will comes back to life because I really find the app user to use).

Today, I feel something is missing in this community...

Where is the engagement? I've seen very few people here really talks to each other like humans but most...

Sound like robots, they don't even read what you wrote, what happened to us? Are all we just here for money?

Yeah, you're making money on your blogs but how many real people even leave comments and try to connect with you?

I used up my voting power to upvote somecomments on my new blog called @busykitchen (I will be using this account for my recipe blogs instead of the account, @myrecipes because I am not happy with the page name) where I made my introduction post and it's the first time that I ever made an official introduction here on steem community.

I am not expecting for any upvotes or get on the trending page, all I want was for you to notice me and see that I am trying to connect to you if you shares the same passion as I do.

I even paid to boost that blog after a whole day of waiting (since @ I couldn't figure out how to pay to promote it) to see if I could get some more people to see it and leave me comments, or maybe I was just being too impatient!

If I could pay every person a Steem just to leave a thoughtful comment, I would, but I thought is this how this is going to be in this platform? We're all after curation and rewards? No real connection?

You're probably thing, well, Gil, if you wanted friends and always talk to you, go to the outside world and stop being naive because this isn't the Steem community that you used to know.

I realised there's very small engagement here and it's really sad. I understand that we should get an incentive for our time visiting their blogs and leaving thoughtful comments but with voting power and resource credit's draining fast its almost impossible to upvote all the comments.

Anyways, enough with the mumblings, before I sign off, I want to thank those individuals who are still here and still keeping in touch with me like real friends in real life even though we're only virtual friends, you guys are humble and genuinely here to keep me company, know who you are, so thank you so much to all of you! 😊

Am always going to be the purepinay that you met and I hope you join me here here through thick and thins! 😂

Xo,
Gil

Hey hey... Reality bites I guess.. The engagement is low is most likely of the low volume of active people participating in the steem communities. People would most likely engage only when it seems incentified to do it.. And that does not necessary meant for upvotes. I'd say just carry on doing what you love and also find new ways to engage.. I can imagine that its really tough for new users or new accounts to find any sort of engagement.

Thanks for the encouragement and yes I'll do this because I enjoy doing it and while Steem is still here, I'll be around. 😊

Yes it is tough for new accounts to build followers and find their community in this this platform. It is very different from other platforms, like Facebook where you search for your friends in real life and connect with them. They're not even here anymore, they find the platforms very complicated to use and I still felt the same way even after 2 years of being here on Steem.

Different Apps:

Are any of the Steem apps making it less complicated for new people here on Steemit? I think it can be hard if the different apps are separate from each other. I know how to run around the Internet. But I know that it is a skill that I have.

Busy.org vs Steemit.com

So, Busy is better than Steemit in some ways as a Steem app. But you are right that Steem may not have some of the Facebook features in finding friends. Perhaps, Steem app developers need to consider trying to build a Facebook Mirror like app for Steem.

Two Years

Yeah, two years and not enough improvement. Well, there are competitors to Steem like Weku, Serey, Smoke, etc. They're not apps of Steem but separate blockchain networks and if Steem doesn't always try to compete, then these competitors could beat Steem in attracting people. Well, currently, Minds.com and Gab.com have been growing and they can be simpler in some ways than Steem. So, I hope the Steem developers keep that in mind.

I don't really agree with Steem devs trying to be another #metoo app as Steem has its own uniqueness. Devs would need to build dapps which are in a league of its own to be on top. All the other "competitors" you've mentioned are a fork of steem and are not even close to the ecosystem that Steem has. I wonder what does EOS Voice has up its sleeves after announcing that Voice would not be on the EOS chain

yeah, there are forks of steem and that adds to the competition. but keep in mind that minds and gab are not direct forks of Steem

"People would most likely engage only when it seems incentified to do it."

I agree because that's what the platform promised to its users but after the forks and while the market still not recovering it'll be hard to upvote all comments without draining the rc

Do you know why they change the resource credit program?

So many people are / were here just for the money. And although I'm here too because of that, I stayed here because of interesting posts. The bear market really sorts out those who think this is still somehow valuable. I'd love to have more time to comment, but I do read what people write, it's just... well, prioritizing. But every now and then I surprise myself and comment something. :D

Keep on doing what you do! I love the new blog idea.

Hi, Gil. i'm Henrry, from Venezuela. if you look at my blog, you'll see that sometimes I don't get many comments, but I make sure I respond to every comment I get. I am all for interaction.
I have been blessed with some faithful followers that despite the distance and cultural (sometimes even ideological) difference, I can consider my friends. They have been supportive and generous with their knowledge of the platform and I do my best to return the favor helping any newcomer I can.
I think that many factors can contribute to the lack of engagement, price of Steem being just on of them. It has been a while since I last benefitted significantly from post rewards. I have been trying to power up every time I can. I am here for other reasons, one of them being to tell the world about my people's tragedy and to leave record of it in the most objective way I can.
Steemit has also allowed me to experiment with some genres and I am very happy writing fiction once in a while or drawing.
The other, for me main, reason for low interaction is that we can only do so much. Anyone with more than 500 active followers knows how difficult it is to catch on with upvoting and commenting. Then, we hae all the tokens, discord channels, apps, contest and who knows what else is out there. Every one of these things demands your full attention, time, energy and resources. It is simply impossible to catch on.
I rarely do facebook and use Twitter mainly to promote Steemit, although lately I have been messing up with political commentaries. That won't last too long, I think. Twitter is a nasty animal.

I think people are worn down by the bear market. Checking out your new project, good luck with it!

Problem is if that's true Dan is that it makes Steem simply financially based and the community nothing more than a catalyst. It should be the other way around. I think we are stuck in a difficult dichotomy and we need to find balance.

I agree to what you said.

Thanks a lot for the support!

The downvote attacking has taken the toll on most and just being at .12 Steem for so long, most are uninterested in comments due to clicks being formed and most talking happens in the Discords. Most importantly users seem to just care about the rewards pool, engagement has been killed by the Witnesses hardfork ideas. Two years in and that's what I see.

Yeah and you know what’s funny? BTC is running and has been for quite some time I mean the last time it was 8/9k this place was booming!

I guess micropayments isn’t enough to keep people here and privacy either! I think the focus on price keeps people away at 14 cent doesn’t seem as attractive as free $1, 3 and 8 dollar highs

We can now only hope that SMT, communities and open seed will help bring people here and get them to stay!

Who knows? I don’t blame people for leaving but I’ll stick around like you I don’t use the other social sites and I like getting more SP and learning more about crypto! I think it’s the future and I think that if you have large influence in the crypto space now it will pay off in the future like the first YouTubers

I barely check the market price now, probably every other day. Not like before I check it every hour, almost no life outside, and I get crazy when my phones dies or if it's can't access the internet to check my portfolio. Lol

Now it's like, meh.. okay time to just sit down, watch my show and eat my peanut butter straight from the jar. Lol

Posted using Partiko Android

Lol me either, I have the extract same experience as you, I used to check the price all the time and now I don’t care and eat peanut butter

I don’t know how other people can still post about the price or make YouTube videos like aren’t you bored of it yet?

Problem is there are many cliques and people seem to stay within their small circles.
What I will do today is delete every waster on my friends list I don't, or don't want to particularly read or talk to and get my own circle down to 25 people I like and do want to talk to. We need friends groups like on Facebook so there can be people who are friends, and people who you just want to read and the first group get priority on the feed...anyway..

It was good knowing you and you're now Dele....joking lol

Catch you on your next posts and sorry for going AWOL. You've always been the biggest superstar here and I will never forget 2 years ago when you were getting hundreds of replies and took the time to reply to everyone. That was awesome of you.

Take care PP and keep posting :-)

I think that there are real folks here on Steemit. The algorythm is also improving and making it easier to find content that you actually are looking for.
Anyways, true people are here. You are gorgeous and have a strong standing here on STEEM, so there is much to be happy about. Again, many times sadness maybe just feeling a bit isolated. If so, I hope you find more like minded friends here.

@purepinay, Yeah...I agree with your point what you wrote here. There are so many active steemians in blockchain. But sadly they couldn't try to increase engagement. No one read or listen some of good posts. Engagement means not only upvotes. So I understand this situation and I'll reach more steemians after finish my busy schedule.

Hey Gil, unfortunately the price decline strongly affected user retention, I even created a steem-engine token for the italian community to incentivize engagement.

I believe communities could lead to a good organization of content and hopefully more engagement, if you think about it, Steem/crypto related posts are the ones that draw attention right now.
