Butterfly day and Insectpub: green monsters demolishing my jasmine plants! หนอนเขียวบุกกินต้นมะลิเกือบหมดต้น

Several days ago, I noticed that the bushy leaves of my old jasmine plant started to get very thin and some branches were nude. At first I thought it was my fault because I was quite busy and did not have the time to water my plants regularly. Then, one morning as I was having my coffee by the jasmine plant, I saw several big fat green monsters on the branches.

I couldn’t believe my eyes as these caterpillars must have been eating leaves happily for at least four weeks! That just showed how long I had neglected my plants. There were altogether six of them, four big ones and two small ones. I did manage to pinpoint two per day as they were very clever at hiding. I did not kill them, instead I picked the branches with these green caterpillars and put them on another plant which had thick green leaves.

But they didn’t like to eat those leaves, the following day I found them back on my jasmine plant! I could hardly believe that they spent the whole night creeping slowly from the other plant to reach my favourite jasmine plant. Then, I decided to put them far away from my jasmine plant. I did not see them again on the third day. But I saw some birds visiting my plants, perhaps they were eaten by those birds! It took about two weeks for the jasmine plants to grow new leaves on those nude branches.

ช่วงเดือนก่อนเราเริ่มสังเกตเห็นต้นมะลิเริ่มผลัดใบ เหลือแต่ก้านเปล่าๆเต็มต้น. เราก็คิดว่าเราไม่ได้ดูแลรดนํ้าหรือใส่ปุ๋ยต้นไม้เลย มันจึงประท้วงด้วยการทิ้งใบ. พอวันหนึ่งเรากำลังนั่งจิบกาแฟใต้ต้นมะลิต้นโปรดของเรา ซึ่งเป็นต้นที่มีอายุมากและมีพุ่มใหญ่ช่วยบังแดดได้ เราหันไปเจอหนอนเขียวตัวใหญ่มาก มันกำลังกินใบไม้อย่างเมามัน เราเจอสองตัว มีขนาดใหญ่และอ้วนมาก นี่เราแย่ขนาดที่ปล่อยให้หนอนมากินใบไม้จนเกือบหมดต้นมาเกือบเดือนหนึ่งแล้ว เราหาหนอนเขียวอ้วนได้วันละ สองตัว เราเจอทั้งหมดหกตัว มันซ่อนตัวเก่งมาก เราคิดว่าจับได้หมดแล้ว. แต่ก็มีตัวเล็กโผล่มาอีกสองตัว

เราก็เด็ดกิ่งไม้ที่มันกำลังกินอยู่ แล้วเอาไปวางใต้ต้นไม้ต้นอื่นที่อยู่ห่างออกไป. เราอยากให้มันไปกินใบไม้ที่ต้นอื่นแทน แต่พอวันรุ่งขึ้นเราก็เจอพวกมันมาเกาะกิ่งต้นมะลิอีก เราแปลกใจมากที่ พวกมันฉลาดมากที่สามารถหาทางไต่ข้ามต้นไม้อื่นมาจนได้. เราต้องเอาพวกมันไปไว้ไกลออกไปอีก คราวนี้เราเห็นนกมาเดินเล่นแถวต้นไม้หลายตัว วันที่สามกองทัพหนอนเขียวหกตัว ไม่ได้มากัดกินใบไม้อีกเลย เราคิดว่าพวกมันคงโดนนกคาบไปเรียบร้อยแล้ว
