Butterfly day and Insectpub: green monsters demolishing my jasmine plants!

in #busy2 months ago (edited)

Several days ago, I noticed that the bushy leaves of my old jasmine plant started to get very thin and some branches were nude. At first I thought it was my fault because I was quite busy and did not have the time to water my plants regularly. Then, one morning as I was having my coffee by the jasmine plant, I saw several big fat green monsters on the branches.

I couldn’t believe my eyes as these caterpillars must have been eating leaves happily for at least four weeks! That just showed how long I had neglected my plants. There were altogether six of them, four big ones and two small ones. I did manage to pinpoint two per day as they were very clever at hiding. I did not kill them, instead I picked the branches with these green caterpillars and put them on another plant which had thick green leaves.

But they didn’t like to eat those leaves, the following day I found them back on my jasmine plant! I could hardly believe that they spent the whole night creeping slowly from the other plant to reach my favourite jasmine plant. Then, I decided to put them far away from my jasmine plant. I did not see them again on the third day. But I saw some birds visiting my plants, perhaps they were eaten by those birds! It took about two weeks for the jasmine plants to grow new leaves on those nude branches.

Wishing you all a very warm and nice weekend.

Your "monsters" are very beautiful, and photos too!
Apparently, caterpillars prefer aromatic food :-)))
Sorry for the caterpillars, but also very sorry for the jasmine!

Thank you! Now I know why they go for my jasmine plants!

Beautiful. But I don't want to pick it up....

I know the feeling! I touched its skin! Urggg! Very soft and slippery!

...this is an unpleasant feeling from childhood. Then the caterpillars sometimes got behind the collar...unpleasantly

Oh! That was terrible feeling for young children!

Oh those pesky caterpillars! I am so glad your jasmine is recovering. That's great news that your plant was not destroyed. I will stay warm indoors today. It's -30°c outside! Winter is here!! Please bask in your summer season a moment for us and the sleeping critters around here!! ❄☃️❄

Thank you very much! I felt sorry for them that the birds got them after I placed them on the other trees!

You should take care, I saw the weather forecast and got worried too.

Stay warm and strong!

wow! that is amazing! we don't have them here... of course less amazing for the plants :/

@tipu curate

Thank you very much! Luckily I found them all!

They were very fat and amazing strong walker! They could do marathon climbing and walking all night!

What beautiful creatures they are. Isn't that little tail funny?
I really can understand your trouble with those leaf eaters. In school, kids collect such "monsters" and put them in a jar feed them and observe their development until one day they are surprised to find them changed into beautiful butterfly princesses.

I was hoping they would stay on the other plants, but the h birds got them!

These are hornworm caterpillars that turn into large moths but I don't know what species they are. They sure got nice and plump from eating the leaves but I am glad to hear that your jasmine plant wasn't destroyed. Amazing photos of them @kaminchan! Thanks for using #butterflyday and #insectpub tags. : ) If you want to be entered in the Giveaway, you must put the link to this post here.

Thank you very much for your support!
Have a nice day!

Caterpillars can really destroy certain plants and trees if given a chance...

I almost lost two jasmine plants!!

I remember then as a kid i use to tease them as a kid by poking a stick at them i was a naught kid :))

Oh! Very naughty!!

Haha i was :))

Howdy sir kaminchan! Those are very interesting caterpillars there, you did a great job of capturing their photos, do you use a macro lense?

Gosh! You work too hard! Always at the top of comment ranking!

I use my old iPhone 6s plus!

lol..yes I know, I am trying to back away from Steemit because I spend too much time on here. Well you are very skilled with that old iphone sir kaminchan!
