My handcrafts: Blessing rattle as sacred tool
My rattle series continues!
This is my next rattle, named "Áldás" or "Blessing". You can see the runic script on it, with some ornaments. We often used to greet each other with "Áldás!"
On the other side of the rattle there is a ligature, "EGY-ŐS-TEN", where "EGY" means "One", "ŐS" means "ancestor" and "Very old", and "TEN" means "endless". Summarizing it, that means: "One GOD", "The Greatest Creator"
Well, we have our own writing that we call "rovás", or "rovásírás". The werb "RÓ" means "to rune", "to carve" in wood or other materials, like stone. It has many variation, even calligraphic and cursive. I also know "ŐsRovás" or "ÖsszeRovás", which is the most ancient and most beautiful form of runic writing. You can see some examples of it here: http://osszerovas.hu
