SEC | S19W1: Designing lesson plans

YES! for lesson planning

The task of the teacher is to transfer the knowledge he has to his students. ✔
A good teacher is a teacher who has a lesson plan. ✔

My Steemian friends and teachers,

I gladly share with you my assignment on lesson planning.

Before we go into the planning of a lesson as per the assignment, it is important that we first look at the parties we are dealing with.

According to the brief these will be teachers, students, and children.

The Oxford Dictionary give the defintions of each as follows:

Teacher: a person who teaches, especially in a school
Student: a person who is studying at a university or other place of higher education
Child: a young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority, or a son or daughter of any age

By looking at the above, we must design our lesson planning for “students” or “your child.”

As a business owner with a background in hospitality, sales, IT, and real estate, I will present a lesson plan for teaching high school students about starting their own businesses based on the true story of a child.

For me, it is of utmost importance to equip the youth of today with the knowledge and skills to become potential successful. This will not only help them in the difficult economic times we are currently experiencing, but it could also unlock a world of opportunity and a feeling of personal fulfillment.

1. The Background

There is nothing as boring as sitting in a class where the teacher does all the talking; it is not interesting, and there is no excitement. Therefore, I will base the lesson on the concept of “Shark Tank” the reality television series. Read more

The students will be the panel of investors, and I will present the concept of a business by a young entrepreneur to them with the end goal in mind that I will be able to convince at least one of them to invest in the business.

  • The lesson will be simple and easy to follow, but not longer than 1,5 hours with a short question and answer sessions after each topic
  • The lesson material will be visual, colorful, and presented on a multi-touch interactive whiteboard.
  • There will be a clear goal.
  • The goal will be achievable.
  • The lesson will be on par with other learning facilities and exam requirements.
  • They will each receive a 10,000$ cheque which they can use to invest

2. Introduction

Everybody loves a story.

I will be presenting my stepson’s roaring business selling ice cream as a ten-year-old. By doing this I will have their full attention as it is true story that they can relate to. If a boy of ten years can do it, so can they!

What they will also enjoy is knowing that they will be investors and they have to listen carefully as they will have to make a decision.

Through the presentation, I will cover the main points that they will have to consider when they decide if they want to invest or not. Points that will come in handy if they want to start their own businesses.

3. Project Overview

The students must understand the concept and how it all started.

  • How the product was chosen
  • The Purpose
  • The Target market
  • The Unique selling point (USP)
  • The Economic Impact
  • The Marketing

4. Cost Estimate

The estimated cost included the purchase and the completion of the concept.

➤ What is a fixed cost (the purchase of the product)?
➤ What is a variable cost (delivery cost, advertising, discount, etc.)?

5. Pricing Strategy

It is so important to find the right price for your products or concept, as it can easily be the downfall of a business.
The three main points on which the pricing of a product is based will be presented.

1. Cost-based or cost-plus pricing

2. Market-based pricing

3. Value-based pricing

6. Potential Profit Margin

It is important to get them involved. I will give them an order from a client, a mini supermarket at a filling station, and based on the cost and pricing structure I presented to them earlier, they can do their calculations.

There after, I will give them my potential sales and profit for selling ice creams all over our beautiful seaside and well-known holiday destination town, Ballito.

In closure

After the presentation, the floor will be theirs to ask me any questions they may have related to the business.
All that remains is to ask the million dollar questions, "Who is willing to invest?"

Homework

You cannot give a lesson and not give homework.

It is now up to them, either as individuals or as teams, to come up with a concept that they can present to a real panel of judges. This can be the school board or even local business owners who might be willing to sponsor a prize or two.
The students can now put what they have learned to the test.

Entrepreneurship education have the power to empower the next generation of innovators, job creators, and trailblazers who will help drive economic progress and solve the challenges we are all currently facing.

Note:
Except for the main images that was designed with Canva the rest of the images are my stepsons created by him with Canva.

Indeed mum you've said everything about this wonderful topic, children really love story and once you tell them story during classes they will definitely fall in love with your subjects because it will energies their brain.

Spending too much time teaching students doesn't make sense at all, like you've mentioned 1,5 hours as the duration for teaching and answering of questions 😀 this will definitely impact more knowledge on the students.

Given homework to your students is very important so you will know if they are learning or not.

Your overall presentation is really amazing, mam. i must confess that i have learnt strategies of teaching children from your blog 😀
I will try and drop my entry into this wonderful challenge.

Thank you for the visit and the lovely comment.

I can tell you one thing... you are never too old to learn. There is not a day that goes by on Steemit that I am not also learning.

The wonderful world of Steemit!
Never a boring moment. (•ิ‿•ิ)

The pleasure is all mine mum ❤️ 😊

Greetings gorgeous

You are pretty intellectual and really more intelligent than us your way of starting post with the definition of the teachers, child and student is highly appealing, your lost attracted me how we can engaged the students in the class, how they can learn more if we did not increase the class hours by just introductions of visuals aids that are attractive and colorful. Students definitely learn with more passion without getting bored.

Thank you for amazing blog.

It is me who must say thank you for the visit and the kind words.
Thank you! 🎕
I have seen many times in my staff meetings that if I reverse the roles, I have all their attention.

We always have to be one step ahead of kids. (•ิ‿•ิ)

Top buat anda mrs.patjewel.

Hello, my friend!

Yip, he had his own ice cream business before we moved to the coast.
He did his marketing, added them to a spreadsheet, worked out his orders for the week, placed them, made out invoices, packed the orders, collected the money, and kept a profit and loss spreadsheet.
He did so well, and he learned a valuable lesson.

Hubby and I collected his order on a Friday, and we even charged him money for fuel so that he could learn.
Unfortunately, there is no supplier delivering to where we now stay, as he would have carried on with it.

He now sells "minibits" sweets to his friends at school, and although he is only 14, he works as a runner over weekends at a restaurant, cleaning tables.

We have to teach our children valuable lessons so that they are prepared for adulthood.

Luar biasa👍🏻👍🏻

This is a fairly good approach concept, direct practice when associated with learning in the world of Education.
It takes a confident student to get this started because that's where the first step in everything starts.

Thanks for inviting me, I enjoyed this post. Good luck Mrs. @patjewell.

This is role swapping, and it always works.
And now I cannot help but smile.
I was shopping with my daughter when she was small. She wanted a specific toy, and I told her that she could not have it. She fell on the floor and started to kick and scream.
Next, I did the same. She looked at me, got up, and never did it again.
Children! We must always be one step ahead of them. (•ิ‿•ิ)

Thanks for the visit! ☕

Experience is the best teacher, you do that first and we believe it works.

I'm sure what happens is that if you don't do that, children will think that this is an effective way to make their parents give up and do what they want.

What you are doing is problem-solving skills. 😀
