Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 01/14/18> Buckle up … this may be a rough ride into the future.

in #blog8 years ago (edited)

I am sure glad I have taken on this task of posting here on steemit.com for the benefit of my future grand kids to read and be able to get to know me through my own words at some point in the future. I had mentioned in previous posts that I didn’t want those future little “pappers” to have to rely on what their parents might tell them about me. Turns out that my intuition was well at work in that regard, I learned things on Saturday about myself that I wasn’t 100% sure of, but my kids wouldn’t have a clue about and could never tell those little pappers.

I always thought that at a point in the future it will be impossible to determine what reality is and what is not. People have said that the only way to know if something is real is if you can see, touch or taste it. My contention has been you can’t trust anything, and need to question everything.

Turns out that I am correct in my belief, and I will attempt to explain why. All the signs have been right there for a long time, I just never bothered to sit down and put the pieces of the puzzle together.

So let’s look at “seeing” first, the eyes can and will play tricks on you. Magicians have known this ever since the first magic trick was ever conceived. The eyes and the brain are different mechanisms, they work independently of each other, but together they allow us to determine what we “see”. So, even though we think we saw that coin or rabbit disappear right in front of our eyes, it didn’t, we just couldn’t process fast enough what had happened. The magician distracted us in some fashion, and created the illusion that those things disappeared. So the eyes cannot be trusted, what you see may very well not be reality.

The sense of touch is easily fooled as well, you can take just about any item that has the word “synthetic” in front of it and place that item and the “natural” item of similar characteristics side by side and do a blind folded touch test and not be able to tell the difference by feeling the objects. Fake leather is getting to be one of those items that are increasingly more difficult to tell and I have been involved with leather goods most of my life being around horses for the majority of that time. There are all kinds of fake fruits that even to the touch you would believe are real, only when you bite into them do you know they are fake. So touch also cannot be trusted, maybe a little more than seeing, but nowhere near reliable.

So that leaves us with taste, our last chance of the three to determine if something is real. This one though has been compromised for years, take anything that has artificial ingredients and compare it to the original natural ingredients. Some of you might want to argue over taste, go ahead, and make your argument now. The fact is artificial flavors and flavorings have been around so long that you younger folks may never in your life have tasted the natural flavor of some things. When is the last time you had vanilla ice cream? When is the last time you ever had vanilla ice cream that was flavored with only natural vanilla bean? Chances are the answered to that last question is never. We have become so accustomed to artificial flavors that we might think the natural flavor was the fake when taking a taste test.

So as you can see, or not see, I have made a real good case that seeing, touching and tasting are out when it comes to determining real. On Saturday I had the unexpected pleasure of having a steemian I met last fall on here show back up after about a three month absence. When she first showed up we kind of butted heads with each other, but managed to agree to disagree and get along. Well it turns out she is a science fiction novelist and she had posted a video from a conference where Sci-Fi folks gather to talk about what they are going to come up with next for us common folks to see and read. This speaker that gives the talk goes by the name of Charles Stross, I am not a sci-fi guy, I have no idea on what Charles has done in this line of work. I did watch the video and I am glad I did.

Turns out, according to Charles, that we are just a few years away from not being able to believe anything we see with our eyes. The technology is so ever close to being able to replace the faces of people in videos that will make it impossible to determine if the video is genuine or doctored. So the next time you see some government official in a sex tape or compromising situation just think about what you have read here.

He also talks about AI, artificial intelligence, and what he has to say about it is worthy of caution for sure. I just found Sola.AI and he describes a social media platform that could very well be Sola or any of these other new ones popping up with AI in their names. If they are doing as he describes is possible, it should scare the hell out of all of us.

Have you ever heard the term “gang stalking”? If you haven’t then I suggest you become familiar with it. A good way to do that would to actually read the own words of someone who has experienced gang stalking first hand, @snowpea , would be that person. She is here on steemit and here is the link to her real life experience. https://steemit.com/gangstalking/@snowpea/my-experience-with-organized-gangstalking-and-being-a-tartgeted-individual

Charles Stross tells of similar things that will be taking place in the future, much like @snowpea has experienced. He also describes how AI will influence and determine outcomes of elections, based on what has happened recently, I believe this is already being used. Charles seemed to know what he was talking about and the 57 minutes I invested watching his talk was time well spent in my mind. So, thanks to @bifilarcoil for coming back to steemit.com and sharing this video, here is the link https://steemit.com/privacy/@bifilarcoil/34c3-dude-you-broke-the-future

Check these two links out and then drop me a line and let’s kick these around in a discussion.
Until next time

Wow, what Charles shared is definitely futuristic, but a bit creepy. But then again, after my virtual reality post and the discussion resulting from that... my mind has been reeling with futuristic happenings embraced in a high creep factor, lol!

Ya think a bit creepy? Some of those things seem to already be taking place for sure. If he is only half right it will be a scary ride on these cyber space sites we are on now.

Oh yeah, and the ride is moving at an ever increasing rate of speed. It's enough that we cannot keep up anymore!

Specially the Corporate AI he decribed is a great example.
Americans can consider themselves somewhat lucky as the biggest spy brother (NSA) may on paper not spy on US citizens. BUT As I am a not to be trusted European bad boy, and their machine spies on my, then every American citizen who reads this will still be spotted. So how can it be that the NSA thinks they are blind for people from the US?
Thats a very twisted reality. A vortexian reality loop?

We know we are spied on, and it doesn't take communication with a foreigner to instigate it. People have slowly had there liberty removed and replaced with tyranny to the point that they know longer know what liberty is, they think liberty is being allowed to obey all the tyranical laws that have been passed here.
A very sad and twisted reality indeed.

@sultnpapper
Indeed... very scary stuff!! This world is no longer a safe place to abide in. There is so much fraud, fake ingredients, and hardened hearts.
Sad.
@jeejee

Ps... I love to make homemade icecream with just vanilla bean for flavor... or homemade vanilla extract (we make it every now and then)

Yes, really makes you wonder where we are headed in the future.
Good for you on the ice cream, very few make their own and use all natural ingredients.

I used to handle scary stories quite well as a kid IMO, but you've got me on edge with this one Sult!

If whatever comes destroys happiness, it will be destroying the future for humankind, as in lasting happiness is where fulfillment lies!

Those things that happened to snowpea are things that Charles was partially describing in his talk. That is the really scary part of it when you look at both things.

Typo alert!
It's Charles Stross. 4 times an S.

Okay, thanks. I'll make that change and you are now officially hired as my proof reader. It doesn't pay much but there is plenty of work.

There are things coming to play now that are rather creepy and our future may be more than we bargined for.

If you didn't read the gang stalking article you really need too, it is very scary for sure.
