in #blog8 years ago (edited)

As you may already know I'm all about audio and music. I love to work with audio and explore its aspects. Every month I'll recap my best articles on Steemit about how sound affects our life in art, science, technology, education, films and even humour.

Documentary films

  • Cymatics: Seeing Sound And Nature
Cymatics is the method we use to observe the shape of sound frequencies. Fine particles or liquids are applied on a vibrating membrane such as plate or a sound speaker.

Art & Music

  • Koka Nikoladze And His Incredible Musical Boxes
Koka Nikoladze has been crafting his own unique musical instruments, often made of wood and ordinary objects. The results are musical instruments so bizarre and cool that blur the line between acoustic and electronic music.

  • 637 GB Of Jazz For Free
David W. Niven was a high school teacher from New Jersey. But his legacy will be the 650 cassette tapes of early jazz that he recorded throughout his lifetime. The set spans more than 1000 hours and gives a fantastic insight into the development of jazz through the years 1921-1991.

Science & Technology

  • DJ Decks Made Of Paper
Kate Stone invented a way to use paper and conductive ink to create interactive print. She may not be the best DJ but is definitely paving the way technology and creative thinking create new experiences.

Owls are some of the most amazing creatures. They can take off vertically and produce almost no sound when flying. En experiment was conducted to try to find out how an owl can fly so silently compared to other birds.

  • World's Most Quiet Room
It's called an anechoic chamber. Sound diffuses by hitting the walls so much that no echo is perceived. There is no floor also to prevent further sound distribution, so you actually float in mid air.

  • Trick Your Brain With This Easy Exercise - The McGurk Еffect
When new information enters our brain, he has to assemble and make sense of the input information. Some senses override others, such as visual stimulation over auditory. It's called The McGurk Effect and it tricks our mind to change what we hear based on visual information.

  • Facts About Sound
Did you know that the sound if a whip cracking is actually the sound of the tip breaking the sound barrier.

Dogs can hear usually between 67 Hz to 45 kHz. This means they can hear as much as twice higher frequencies than humans, 20 Hz to 20kHz.

Funny
