Sonoluminescence: Creating Light From Sound

in #science8 years ago

If you collapse an underwater bubble with a sound wave, light is produced and nobody knows why.

This expirement reveals a surpising relationship between sound and light. When pulsed through an underwater bubble, sound is converted into light and heat of such magnitude that fusion may be possible. The light, however, is the most alluring feature of this process.
