Theme explenation

When composing a photo you can use several 'ingredients' to build your composition and convey the story you want the photo to tell. These ingredients are named 'visual elements' and one of these visual elements are lines.

Lines in photos allow you to guide the viewer into the photo. Like creating a path for there eyes to follow. These lines can have any shape, but mostly have a general direction. Also, the lines can also be implied, by for example a repetition or movement.

Example 1

In this photo everything just points to 1 direction. The trains, the roof, the tracks and even the direction of all the people that are walking

Example 2

Also in this photo there is 1 clear vantage point, the tracks in the foreground grab the viewers attention and lead the viewer into the street. This effect gets enlarged by the overhanging lights and the shops on the sides.

Example 3

Here you see implied lines. The repetition of the divers with the direction they are heading in makes the viewer look in a vertical direction. Maybe even go over the photo 3 times in the vertical direction.
