How Do You Manage Your Backups?

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

In this day and age it's advisable to have a backup of your files either offline or online. You can go about it in a number of ways using different kinds of storage media or move things online to a secure cloud service such as sync.com

But usually what I've observed is that people get very busy and ignore these things until its too late. I've made this mistake myself in the past to not have backup of my backups.

It got me into trouble when my laptop was stolen in 2016. I wrote about incidents of theft in a post here and this is clearly a follow up to that.

Whether or not you've been through such a scenario, are you today keeping multiple backups of your important files, media and passwords?

The options are many but do you really use any of them?

How are you going about maintaining your backups? Let's find out the favourite methods of Steemians from all over.

Let me know in the comments below.

I moved towards a cloud based solution long back. This happened to me during my college days where my harddisk got corrupted and I lost some of my personal data. That's when I decided to keep multiple backup of the information. I took a decision to reduce the amount of data that I store. Most of my data is in cloud. I had issues with my photo storage initially but Google gave unlimited storage capacity. I used to have my photos in Facebook but one fine morning I woke up too see my FB photos disappeared. Fortunately I had a back up in my local hard disk as well.

Today I have all the backups available in multiple locations. Not just one cloth location but just to be in the safer side I have kept multiple copies of the same information in different cloud servers.

  1. Multiple external drives for photos which are mostly in Nikon RAW format.
  2. Every disk has atleast 1 backup
  3. Data is stored on BackBlaze - which is fairly cheap

Merry Christmas .

@firepower, Yes, sometimes we wake up too late towards something really important. At this moment genuinely i don't have much to think about the Backups or something, but for sure for important documents and files it's an must. Stay blessed brother. 🙂
