It's been three years since my official introduction to the cryptocurrncy scene though I must admit that I was an inactive crypto outsider-cum-enthusiast for far too much of that time.

I credit Steemit as the platform that presented a unique value proposition that was appealing enough to capture my full attention and that was the catalyst for my immersion into the new economy.

Naturally Bitcoin was in my purview before Steemit but I didn't do anything tangible at the time like say buy some Bitcoin from a guy on Craigslist or God forbid from some guy on the corner of the street near Starbucks or something like that.

Steemit: A reminder to self and the masses at large

Steemit is designed as a decentralized application (DApp) built upon the Steem blockchain, using the eponymous cryptocurrency STEEM to reward users for their content. By voting on posts and comments, users get to decide the payout of those posts. Users also get so called "Curation Rewards" for finding and upvoting content that gets upvoted by other users afterwards.[5][6]

So all you need to do is write quality content, and that content will be validated by the community through a liberalized voting process and you get paid for your creative work in digital currency. Now that is a model for progress.

The platform taught me how to be a more effective writer. The community helped me to organize my thoughts more cohesively. An invaluable lifetime asset and a tool for personal growth and empowerment.

I am no digital currency expert but I must say I am a little disappointed that the STEEM/SBD crypto market capitalization seem to be in steady decline ranking #75 and #405 respectively at the time this article was written according to Coinmarketcap.

Then again:

Investing isn’t about beating others at their game. It’s about controlling yourself at your own game.

However there has been a lot of positive developments in the ecosystem. We have see a lot of really innovative blockchain based projects coming on stream.

Mainstream society is slowly coming to the realization that Blockchain Technology the protocol that makes cryptocurrency and a diverse range of decentralized applications possibe is here to stay. It's potential for social inclusion and economic transformation can't be understated nor ignored.

When Steemit found us we were in the trenches developing Yaadio, Inc., facing the usual uncertainties that the average startup normally faces, while attempting to establish a workable business model for our little company.

Long story short I saw some speculative advertisement about Steemit in some dark corner of the internet. Ninety nine times out of a hundred I would have ignored such obscure marketing communications but not this time. I clicked the link on that fateful day and then proceeded to be enveloped in euphoria as I entered this brave new world.
