How to get around San Francisco for Bitcoin 2019

I haven’t been to this venue yet I am curious about it. Luckily is in a very central part of town. It’s right at the corner of Van Ness and Market Street.

Unfortunately it isn’t walking distance to most attractions and hotels. SVN West (12th Street Entrance) 41 12th Street San Francisco, CA It’s right at the corner of Van Ness and Market Street. Looks like the entrance is off of 12th street (runs parallel to Van Ness).

Please note: it is located next to a homeless “navigation center”, used to be the worst residential hotel in San Francisco. They might have shut it down already, I don’t remember. It is a very cool historic building “Civic Center Hotel”. Might be culture shock for some visitors.

TRANSPORTATION
Uber/ Lyft :Please find a good pickup location. Bus stops are not a good pick-up location. They can get a $300 ticket. Muni buses have cameras on them to give automatic tickets. Don’t forget to tip your driver! ALWAYS check that the license plate in the app matches the car you are getting into.

Muni : San Francisco’s public Transit system. San Francisco municipal railway. Very easy to get around and always an adventure. You will see real San Francisco riding Muni. Major lines typically run every 10–20 minutes.

For real-time bus info : nextmuni.com and they also have an app. I always use the web version works better for me. Be sure to have location access turned on your phone.

Convenient bus routes for Conference:
F-Line
14 Mission
49 Van Ness
38 Geary

Muni Metro station There is also a Muni Metro station underground on the corner of Van Ness and Market where you can catch various street cars that go to parts of the city. These cars go partially underground and partially above ground. I don’t care for them.

BART Bay area rapid Transit. San Francisco’s antiquated subway system . BART does not go to the Conference location.Good for traveling to and from the East Bay. Might want to wear earplugs very high decibels going through some tunnels can cause ear damage. Be mindful of your belongings especially your cell phone. Nearest station to the Conference is Civic Center.

Transit Card To save a little bit of money I recommend buying a Clipper transit card. You can get them at any Walgreens which is on every corner in San Francisco. you can most likely get them at the airport too. There is also a Walgreens kitty corner to the Venue.
Load money on the card (at any walgreens or bart station) and then you just tap it on the reader when you get onto the bus or the BART train platform. It is encouraged to board through the back door, and there are card readers at every door.

Walking
The best way to get around the city. Always be vigilant anything can happen anywhere at anytime. I would AVOID walking through the Tenderloin area in red below.

OTHER THINGS

Safety tips
Try not to look like a tourist Keep your cell phone protected at all times. Use hand sanitizer often.
I feel very safe in this city, however I feel it’s an inevitability that your cell phone will eventually get stolen. Be mindful of your surroundings at all times.

San Francisco homeless
The homeless population and the uncleanliness of San Francisco streets is very shocking. There are an insane amount of variables that contribute to this horrific humanitarian issue. Please don’t forget people without homes are people too. Everyone deserves respect.

Other notes
There are so many fun and exciting things to do in this town. Please explore! Downtown is not representative of the entire city. Each neighborhood has its own unique flavor. One fun thing is San Francisco can change drastically within two blocks.

Panhandlers
I find the most aggressive panhandlers are usually the people that don’t need it (in the very touristy and shopping areas)….and the ones that truly do need help are usually hidden in the shadows and doorways. I think it’s always polite and respectful to acknowledge if somebody asks you a question, even if it is asking for money. “Hi there, sorry I can’t help, have a good day”, is usually my go-to response.

Weather
Typical summertime weather is cold fog and then a few days is really warm weather… And then cold fog. Be prepared for anything. San Francisco is also famous for it’s micro-climates. It can be cold and foggy in one neighborhood while warm and sunny in another.
