Ratel's photos #225 Forest Birds-172
The white-backed woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos)
As you can guess by the name, this woodpecker has a white back, and it has more white plumage than other woodpeckers. Sexual dimorphism is the same as in the more common Great Spotted Woodpecker. The male from the female is distinguished by a red cap. But, again, unlike the Great Spotted Woodpecker, red cap is large, along the entire head. On the photo, as you can see, the female.
The fieldfare (Turdus pilaris)
Probably the most numerous thrushes in our forest. They are everywhere! And even in parks and squares you can meet them.
A fairly large bird, probably the largest of the Thrushes.
In the summer they like to dig in the grass in search of worms, which feed the chicks. And you just have to walk along the forest path, as they scared off frightenedly, and grumbled with displeasure.
