Somewhere in Haiti

I was writing a story to a magazine today, about my recent visit to Haiti. Wish me luck in getting published for real.
That inspired me to go though the photos and pull off a few that I underestimated before. With some more processing I could reveal the spark in this one. This place was close to the border with the Dominican Republic and it was simply stunning. Unfortunately, I was in a hurry to catch a flight from the opposite side of the island and could not make even a brief stop.

From what I have researched, it is that on the Dominican border - Haitian, on the Haitian side, we have the Azuei Lake (which is what we see in your photo and which is located 30 km east of the center of Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital .); It is also known as: Lago del Fondo, Lac Assuei and Étang Saumâtre. It is the second largest aquifer on the island of Hispaniola, after Lake Enriquillo (in the Dominican Republic) and the largest in Haiti. Its indigenous name Taíno is Yainagua.

This area was the cause of border claims between Haiti and the Dominican Republic; but, around 1929, these two countries signed a new treaty, where the Dominican resigned and officially handed over to Haiti almost all the Lago del Fondo.

When Columbus and the first Spanish settlers arrived in this area, more than 500 years ago, they found a very large lake, called Hagueibon by the Tainos. At this time the lakes Azuei and Enriquillo had come together; that is, they were one. In order to get together they should have had a level of around 15 m above sea level. Probably, in the last 500 years, the lower entrance of water to the lake and the strong effect of evaporation, due to being in a harsh climate, separated the two lakes again (Azuey and Enriquillo)

Before rising the two mountains around the lake, the Sierra de Neiba and the Sierra de Bahoruco during the late Miocene (10 to 5 million years ago) the entire area was covered by a shallow sea of the insular socle. That is why almost the entire southwest is covered with limestone formations descending from different eras.

When the water level dropped after covering the mouth of the bay, the reefs fell dry. Due to the arid climate they have been kept in very good condition until the present (maybe that explains the kind of formations that we see in the mountains that you show in your photo). In many places the visitor can see the structures of the old reef that today forms the substrate for the dry forest plants.

Greetings

The picture of the scenes shows a beautiful view of photography. The picture that can be painted with color of human imagination seems to be more natural. The painting is no longer in color and color. Photography is also limited to camera frames. Like technology and rich imagination of human imagination.

Hello nameless-berk. That opening between the stones could suggest that you just passed the border through an alcabala of nature. Beautiful photography!
