New Neighbors

in #beautifulsunday6 years ago (edited)

This is my entry for the #beautifulsunday challenge, hosted by @ace108 and for #sublimesunday by @c0ff33a.

I have had Beavers move into my backyard! I talked to a neighbor who had lived in the neighborhood for 50 years before moving into a retirement home and they had never seen one in the entire time they lived here.

They have been busy as Beavers!

They are mostly nocturnal, so the odds of me getting a photo of one might be pretty slim so I'm including this photo that I found online.

My neighbor has wrapped the trees in her yard in hardware cloth, hoping to protect them. As long as they stay down along the river I am not too worried about them. They might actually do me a favor by clearing out some of the undesirable trees that grow in the mucky area down by river! I think there is plenty there to keep them busy, for a while at least!

The area that they appear to be trying to flood should just create a nice little pond for me without causing any problems or damage. I think they will be fun to watch!

Thank you, dear Pix!

Oh, it is such a good thing when you have a beaver in your area. It means that it is a healthy ecosystem. A friend of mine was so excited when they found out they had a family of beavers in the area. Granted they can cause issues, but as long as it is watched closely, it shouldn't be an issue.

I think it is interesting how they are able to fell trees. I just cant imagine the power that must be in those jaws!

Thanks so much for sharing your story and photos. I can't wait to hear the further adventures of Mr. Beaver.

Thank you! @esteemapp is the best!

Get the deck chairs ready for Spring viewing. :-)

Maybe they will bring the water close enough that it will be possible to watch them from the deck!

Definitely beavers. I hope the ones that moved in are as cute as the one in the picture :)

I hope I get to see them!

You have some very hardworking neighbors. I do not think they'll leave you without the unwanted trees, but it might make you a lake.

I think it will be fun to see the changes they make!

Yes! They are very industrious beings.

Howdy there Melinda! I found it! lol. I must be a retard sometimes but anyway I love the pictures of their work. That one tree that is down looks pretty darn big! So your daughter didn't get to see any?

No beavers. They tend to come out at night, so chances of seeing them are probably pretty slim unless you were out there really early or late. Maybe that will work when it's not so cold outside! That tree was pretty good-sized. And so are several others that they have been gnawing on. And the hole that they have made in the river bank is pretty good size, too! I can't wait to see what they are planning!

Hey Melinda I guess even if you were able to go down there with a light they would dive under cover or down into the water or something wouldn't they? I agree, it's going to be very interesting to watch their building plans and they have big trees if they want to make a big dam but those trees are so heavy that I don't know how they move them!

I think they chew off the branches and use those with mud and rocks to build their dam. Once they have created their pond they would build a lodge in the pond, I think. It's a pretty elaborate construction project.

Nice to see the wildlife come around though from having to protect the trees, I wonder if they are viewed as pest sometimes.

They are very much viewed as a pest when they go into the city parks and start chewing down the L
landscaping! They set live traps for them and haul them back out into the country. People get a little upset when they start chewing down the trees that they have planted in their yards! I'm waiting to see how my neighbors are going to react.

Yes, I guess it's frustrating to see the tree you grow for years and things happen.

I paid to have new birch tree planted in my yard this spring and I would not be happy if a beaver decided to eat it! I am hopeful that they are satisfied with the trees that they will find down along the river bank and in the woods!

They can be pretty destructive, but are definitely fun to watch! I got a few nice close-ups last spring of the ones that moved into the state park. It was interesting to watch them "work."

I have come upon them, but never in a situation where I get to observe them longer-term. I think it's going to be fun.
