The Three Essential Beard Grooming and Styling Tips & Tricks for Men

in #beard6 years ago (edited)

Like it or not, beards are not going anywhere, anytime soon.

If you got some fur on your face, chances are that you should - at some point - consider grooming and styling it a bit.

And for this, there are three essential beard products and tools ever bearded guy should consider owning.

#1. Beard and Mustache Trimming Scissors, Your Go-to Beard Grooming Necessities

To trim the stray hairs gone wild, even out your looks, and generally, keep the mane in tip-top shape, beard scissors are a must.

You might think that a beard trimmer is more important, but everyone knows how easy it is to cut of a bit too much with the clippers, and end up having to take the whole beard of as a result.

Scissors are far more versatile, and allow you to nicely groom the beard and mustache at a reasonably slow and steady pace.

And let's face it. Most of us are no master barbers, so the slow pace is perfect.

#2. The Best Beard Oil Possible for Beard Styling

Okay, there's 1000+ different beard oil bottles on Amazon right now, and they all claim to be "premium" and the "best".

They all claim to use the most organic, most amazing oils, but some of them have to be good and others bad, that's the law of life.

And in this case, you have to take a good look into the ingredients to figure out which is which.

To help, understand this: the beard grows in response to androgenic hormones (testosterone and DHT), and some oils can lower - others increase - these hormones.

So when choosing the ingredients, go through the list and look for saturated and monounsaturated oils, with as little as possible polyunsaturated oils (the two former increase T & DHT, the latter lowers both).

#3. Style your Whiskers with Beard Balms

For a more deeper nourishing hold than with just beard oils can give you, consider trying out beard balm.

What brand you ask? Well none!

Make it yourself, DIY style. It's incredibly easy, and based on my loose calculations, you will pay up roughly 1/10th of the price in materials compared to the same volume of pre-made balms.

So what's the best recipe?

This DIY beard balm:

In a bowl, pan, or anything heatable, mix 2tbsp beeswax pellets

2 tbsp jojoba oil, 1 tsp argan oil, and 1 tbsp shea butter.

As a finishing touch, add balsam fir or blue spruce essential oil for scent.

Pour the mixture into 1 oz. tins, and wait till it sets. You're done.
