Steem Basic Income

Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.

All new members that have received enrollment verification messages are configured in @steemvoter and voting weights have been updated. You should start seeing your basic income rolling in again normally. Please let us know if you see any issues.

New Optional Enrollment feature: auto-selected sponsoring

We had a batch of enrollment transactions come in with no name of whom to sponsor. We sent follow up messages, and most provided us a name, but some declined. We use sponsorship for specific reasons, and we intend to keep it so that a sponsor is paired with a person sponsored, for each enrollment. IF you send an enrollment fee with no name to sponsor, we will treat it as sponsoring a paused member, so that their basic income will resume. For example, @arcange is currently paused because his posting frequency is too high and voting weight for each post has dropped below 0.50%. If @sneakyninja sends 1 STEEM with no message, it will be handled as an auto-select sponsorship of a paused member. @sneakyninja will receive 1 share, and @arcange will receive one share. The paused member chosen will be the member that has been in paused status the longest. (Typically the first name shown on the paused members list, although it could be somebody from the full list with more than 1 share already).

New and existing members can continue to increase their basic income by designating sponsorships, and any enrollment transaction with a name to sponsor will be handled as it always has been, with 1 share given to the sponsor and 1 given to their person sponsored.

Upvote @steembasicincome regularly to increase the basic income that you receive

Vote weight will be adjusted upward for members that upvote @steembasicincome. Currently members are receiving 102 shares worth of 'bonus' vote weight by upvoting regularly!

New feature - delegation bonus shares

I had a brief discussion with a member this week, about the way that voting weights are handled for bonus shares from upvoting. Members with more valuable upvotes do not receive as much benefit from upvoting similar amounts. For example, Member1 might have a $1 upvote, while Member2 might have a $0.10 upvote. If member 2 upvotes 20 times over the measured period (28 days), they will deliver $2 in value to the collective through their upvotes, and they will receive 1 bonus share. If member 1 upvotes the same number of times, they will deliver $20 in value, but also only receive 1 bonus share. If they adjust their upvotes to 10% to deliver the same $2 in value, they would only receive 0.1 bonus shares (a much smaller adjustment to their upvote weight.

We designed it this way because it is easier for people with high SP to increase their basic income by purchasing additional shares and sponsoring more people. However, we recognize that some members may not want to liquidate their SP (or may be using every bit of STEEM to power up), and we would like to provide them a way to receive bonus shares while still benefiting the entire collective.

To that end, any existing members can now receive bonus shares by delegation. For every 25 SP delegated to @steembasicincome, members will receive 1 bonus share. Now member A can get similar bonus shares to member B by delegation instead of upvoting, to the benefit of everyone involved! Currently each share receives a weekly voting weight of 8.42%

Any Steemian that is already enrolled in @steembasicincome can delegate as much as they would like, to receive bonus shares.

Upvote Bots

@earthnation has a new upvote bot, @earthnation-bot. It is designed for helping red fish to improve their SP. A tiny fee of 0.05 SBD returns an 0.25 upvote, but it is limited to Steemians with less than 500 SP. We received this great offer from them, because they firmly support what we are doing:

Our membership previously voted against the use of bidding bots for @steembasicincome, but fixed-return bots work differently and this is a great opportunity, so we are bringing it before the collective. Please vote on one of the comment threads from @steembasicincome and feel free to share your thoughts. When the threads payout, we will follow the outcome, on the basis of one member, one vote.

Paused Members

Since some members are quite prolific, their voting weight for each post has dropped below 0.50%. We will start listing these members as 'paused' members in each membership update. When their vote weight increases (through less frequent posting, more shares, or by bonus vote weight from upvoting @steembasicincome) they will start receiving upvotes again. @steemvoter has announced that they will incorporate daily rate settings (so we can upvote these members once daily instead of each post) in a future build. Once that becomes available, we will retire this status.

Inactive Members

Steem Basic Income is delivered through upvotes on posts. The weekly upvote weight (currently 10.72% per share) is divided across the total posts each week. If members are not posting, we are unable to deliver their upvotes. We will start identifying members that have not posted in the last week as inactive members. If you know these members personally, please invite them to come back and start posting again!

We are up to 730 shares, with 346 members. There are 41 paused members and 60 inactive members. If you believe your share count to be incorrect, please let us know and we will happily check it again.
