Leos are not subtle.

Leo wants to be a hero, and he is not an especially gracious loser. He'd often like to be magnanimous to the other winner -- if only for the sake of whatever image he can salvage from a bad situation -- but lacking a lot of subtlety in his very public character, the disappointment usually shows.

Part of his downfall, too -- and it usually takes Leo a long time to snap to this -- is that so much of his drama is self-aggrandizing rather than altruistic.

When he belly-flops, it's his excessive pride that's showing -- not his impossibly high ideals. Sadly, this can rob him of even the chance to claim status as the Tragic Hero -- the one who made a noble attempt for a noble cause and failed.

He knows how to win over an audience.

But a Leo who can weave a fair amount of benevolent intention for others also into his ambitions -- that Lion becomes a showman Lady Luck, the members of his spellbound audience, and even The Divine Source Itself ... can root for and boost onward to success.

That's a lesson Leos would do well to learn as early as possible in life. (And the Leos with Sun in 12th or 7th House often succeed admirably at this assignment.) They've got a step-up then on their ambitions for leadership positions. That, too, is a status Leo craves -- the ability to make a difference in life and be appreciated for it. Still, Leo is a sign born to give orders -- not take them.

Any of them will tell you so.

Leos are born to lead.

Leos are born to be out in front of Life's Big Parade ... the fringe on their epaulets dancing, their medals and other evidence of past victories on display, the sunlight streaming down like a blessing -- and a flourish of horns to announce their arrival. When they've got their act together, they do extremely well in this high-visibility position. It is, indeed, a show to behold.

Then, too, Leo himself is in his best position to let his natural magnanimity and generosity do its magic. When he's got his priorities right and is getting sufficient amounts of ego-food for himself, Leo can be an extraordinarily benevolent and rousing leader. He can be Raoul Wallenberg (born August 4, 1912) whose remarkable courage takes your breath away, instead of the more notorious, strutting, and arrogant Benito Mussolini (born July 29, 1883).

Always entertaining

Leos! As a group they strut and fret their hours onstage -- for the amusement and bemusement of the rest of us. And they are always uniquely themselves. In everyday life, sometimes you just gotta love 'em. Other times you just want to strangle them. They don't seem able to walk much of a middle ground, either. You're either on one polarity or the other ... with a lot of no-man's-land in between. You can get whiplash changing sides.

Mostly, though, Leos know how to have fun. They enjoy playing the game of life, and they enjoying having others watch them do it. They know how to take a risk ... and how to "bet it all" on one turn of the card, one spin of the wheel, one throw of the dice ... and trust their renowned, phenomenal luck to somehow, somehow bring them out on top, winners all with a spring in their step and a happy tune to whistle on their way out the door with their pockets abulge with their winnings.

No kidding, the Leos do know how to entertain ... themselves and everyone else in the process.

Always the star of the show

And when it comes to romance ... oooh, la, la ... there is nothin' like a Leo with courtship on his mind (or her mind)!! When you have a Leo lover on the line ... you are in for one first class adventure. Everyone should do it at least once. (I myself have done it three times now. I even married two of you. Most of the time, it was -- and is -- worth the aggravation.)

Again, when you're dealing with a Leo, you're in the company of someone whose Inner Kid is usually right there on the surface, ready to flash that patented show of tooth enamel and come out to take a few bows. Leo is renowned for the way he likes to frolic and amuse himself. That's how it is when, in Life's game, you are the star of the show.

And no matter how old he or she gets to be, you can always see in a Leo's exploits the outlines of the little scrapper they once were ... shouting, "Hey, Ma, watch this!!" as they prepare to do something heart-stopping, often involving heights and with no net below. Sometimes it's a wonder any of them grow up -- let alone grow old.

Thank you for stopping by!

If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.

Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.

If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.

One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe. I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.

Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.

Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there is lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.

This is who I am.

About the art in our visual essays ...

Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.

The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.

Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.

So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.

The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them. All of us at Enchanted Spirit are profoundly grateful to them for their generosity and skill ... and for the added grace, depth and dimension their art brings to ours.
