The New Moon in Gemini

Well, the cool and curious New Moon in Gemini has arrived, bringing a new shuffle of the Cosmic Deck and some interesting changes to our everyday world. There has been a lot of depression in the circles where I travel lately, and some high-profile suicides in the news that I have trouble explaining purely in astrological terms. Maybe you’ve felt this general malaise. I know I have.

This may be a combination of factors, but even the aspects that fit the pattern are usually so fast-moving and mood-based they’re almost negligible. I mention them now because, being in the Lunation chart, they’ll be especially strong -- and durable. The coming month may be emotionally tough -- and just speaking from intuition and experience, we’re not in real good shape going into it.

Life feels fragile now

There are some nice things in this Lunation chart -- and some problems, which -- as I said -- normally wouldn’t amount to much. But this dark mood is out there -- and it’s been hanging around for a while. It seems extreme for the indicators, so take extra good care of yourself this month. No use pushing things right to the edge.

So let's talk about the double-dose of potent Gemini energy that just landed on the front porch. It is powerful fuel for your mind -- and it’s one of the brightest and most entertaining energies of the year.

The restless search for knowledge and "what's new"

All on its own, The New Moon in Gemini brings an energy that is restless, inquisitive, flexible, and far more intellectual than emotional. It's good at multi-tasking, handling plenty of trivia and details. It processes new knowledge adeptly. It loves to entertain itself, and it's wonderful fun for those who enjoy a good romp on the playgrounds of the mind.

If you have the wit to make a game of this time ... or if you can really immerse yourself in things like reading, writing, journaling, journeying or watching the movies of your imagination roll across the back of your eyes ... you'll save yourself a ton of stress and arrive refreshed at the next stage -- when Life delivers you there.

Let’s get an overview of this month, because there are things in this chart that should be able to balance out the problems.

Here's what the Lunation Chart looks like this month.

The Lunation in Gemini

So here are the positive things about this Lunation chart.

  • Gemini energy!! -- which is fun, inquisitive, curious, mobile and fascinated with all the “learning moments” life hands it
  • Mercury is sextile to Uranus -- indicates bright ideas, insightful projects, clever solutions to problems ... likely involving home, living conditions, family matters, money concerns
  • Mercury (like Venus) will become part of its own Kite pattern this month -- and so will The Sun. This is way too complicated to describe quickly. I’ll need several SxS issues to get it all said.
  • Venus will be in Leo for most of this month -- a playful, romantic, highly creative and positive energy
  • Jupiter is trine to Neptune (and will be for a while) -- a highly imaginative, creative, artistic, enlightened, spiritually uplifting energy

Problems in this Lunation?

  • The Lunation is square to Neptune -- indicates problems with self-esteem, dealing with unhappy memories and fantasies, an indicator of depression
  • Mercury opposes Saturn -- shows limited thinking, reluctance to say what you think (or ask for what you want), a chilly reception for any “outside the box” ideas
  • Venus will oppose Mars this month -- shows arguments, relationship issues, angry responses, possible jealousy, over-spending, self-indulgent purchases

Specifically this month ...

Personal focus ---> It’s time to open your mind, take up new interests, learn more of what you need to know in order to achieve your goals. You may need to change some unproductive situation -- or abandon it altogether. Either way, you need to look at your situation -- and your desires -- from many different angles and decide on the best course to follow.

Read. Talk. Study. Do research. Share what you know -- and find out what other people know that you can use to put yourself on the most productive path. In Gemini, you’re invited to take a scatter-gun approach to life and learn there is more than one way to do whatever you have in mind.

Mercury in Cancer

Intellectual interests ---> With Mercury (Gemini’s ruler) newly arrived in emotional Cancer, you’ll discover this month how well you can manage intellectual input (and objective analysis) with intuitive messages (and tugs from your inner world) simultaneously. It’s great when the information you get from heart and head match, but often these two parts of your mind pull in different directions, and that can be trouble.

Memories may color your decisions this month. Unresolved issues from the past may arise -- and ask for some kind of closure. Family matters are a priority. So is the comfort and condition of your home. All kinds of home-improvement projects may appeal to you. Whether you act on them or not is another matter. They stand a better chance to become real if they somehow support future plans or unusual goals. If you can see a greater purpose behind your desires, that may be what it takes to get you going.

Venus in Leo

Relationships ---> Venus has just moved into Leo -- a fun-loving combination second to none. Spend time with your Special Someone. Be romantic, have fun, play together. Think of all the reasons why you’re proud of the special people in your life ... and how they show off your talents and good taste. Then think of all the reasons why they should be proud of you ... and polish those special qualities and skills. You may start to see your relationships in an entirely new way -- an improvement for sure.

Resources, support and supply channels ---> Overspending may be a problem this month. Venus in Leo invites you to be very self-indulgent. Luxuries and treats have special appeal. With Mars now in Aquarius there’s an emphasis on unusual or out-of-character purchases. You’ll have to decide how tight a grip you want to keep on your money ... and how much value you might buy if you try something totally new. There’s a balance there obviously. It’s up to you to find it.

Mars in Aquarius

Action ---> Over the next four months, thinking outside the box, acting on inspiration, experimenting with new methods to accomplish your goals, breaking with tradition, adopting a more progressive way of engaging the world ... will become “the new normal” for you -- and everyone. It’s been two years since Mars was in Aquarius, and it retrogrades there this year -- starting on June 26. It doesn’t come out of its own shadow until mid-October. During that time you’ll implement new designs, new targets, new strategies to succeed.

You’re about to do a lot of work over that you thought was finished and done. (What house holds the first nine degrees of Aquarius? That’s where this remodeling, renovation, redesigning will happen.) You’ll find (and act on) ingenious solutions to long-standing problems. You’ll tackle new obstacles in unconventional ways. You’ll try things you’ve never done before -- maybe things that themselves have never been tried before. And you will learn a lot about shaping the future with the choices you make today.

Thank you for stopping by!

If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.

Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.

If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.

One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe. I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.

Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.

Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there is lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.

This is who I am.

About the art in our visual essays ...

Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.

The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.

Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.

So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.

The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them. All of us at Enchanted Spirit are profoundly grateful to them for their generosity and skill ... and for the added grace, depth and dimension their art brings to ours.
