The Jelly Family - a children´s room mural | Eine Wandmalerei im Kinderzimmer [EN/DE]

There was a three year old girl who was asked what she would love her mom to paint on her wall. The answer was easy: "Jellyfish! Mummy, daddy and a child!" That´s the project I´ve been occupied within the last 2,5 weeks. So every minute that I wasn´t working and not playing with the child, I painted her wall. Of course only when she wasn´t asleep, because it was the same room (so I had to carve in the evenings instead :P ).

It started with a light blue area, where the painting should take place. Then I drew a rough design on paper to figure out how to position the different parts.

Then I started drawing the design on the wall with a pencil. As we had so much wall paint leftovers from renovating, I used that for the white parts. It´s not the first time I painted on ingrain wallpaper, but it still sucks. It´s hardly possible to draw a straight thin line. But I accepted the challenge.

After painting the baby jellyfish and starting to shade it with dark blue acrylics, I added the parents. As you can see, I asked my daughter for help, since I wanted also her to have fun with that painting. So there´re some special sea animals too :)

I added more and more shades and the background. Note to myself: Next time I´m going to paint the darker background first. It´s not so easy to paint around thin white lines. But it works ;)

In the end I wanted to involve my daughter again and I used a sponge and paint to press some bubbles against the wall.

Here you can see the final result - for the moment. I hope she´s not into horses in three weeks...

Aaawww.. the jellyfishes are beautiful @patschwork! I can see mommy and daddy caring and protecting their little girl there. I love the dark blue against the light blue wall. And it is so fun for your daughter to be able to participate in the art :)

I hope she´s not into horses in three weeks...

What a beautiful mural painting, patschwork. It is such a happy one too, I bet it would cheer up anyone when they see it whenever they pass by. Such a sweet family moment that you worked together with your daughter. Very lovely <3.

Thank you so much, @scrawly. Yeah, it was a nice moment, then she started to paint the white wall around :D But yes, we had fun haha

She might be. Does she know about seahorses? :)

I can't help but feel some admiration for anyone who's into sea-life being a huge fan myself. Beautiful drawing!

Thank you so much, @eccles. Great to hear, that you love the underwater world too. Maybe you also like this old post of mine: https://steemit.com/photography/@patschwork/jellyfish-creatures-from-the-stars

I did enjoy it, thank you

On a slightly different note, I'd just like to express my appreciation for your use of light and texture in your your work -- can't quite describe how I feel about the darker scenes, but... It's like wanting to take in every little detail, to sense the place.
I'm able to appreciate both simple drawings and complex ones, but I have a special place in my heart for surreal scenes that feel like something physical from a different reality.

I don't even know what this clumsy attempt at praise achieved, but hopefully it conveys:
Your work is very nice, I like it :)

Thank you so much, @eccles. That's what I love to do most: scenes from another reality. I'm glad you also like these pieces of mine.

Thank you so much, guys ♥

There's nothing more important than giving your child what she/he would like and doing it together is going to strengthen the bond between you two. She's going to remember this for the rest of her life. The painting is wonderful, and the shades of blue has a mentally calming effect. She;s lucky to have you and vice versa! Congratulations!

Thank you so much, dear @erikah. Yes I hope she likes it for a long time (since the taste of a three year old changes quite often). And I hope it calms her down a bit, she's a bundle of energy :) ♥

Better to be energic then sick, that's what we always say ;) If she changed her mind and you have to paint something else on her wall, at least we get to see another great artwork from your 😀

wow a baby jellyfish family painting in the wall of the room? This is totally different I haven't seen before done on a room wall.
Truth is I find it very interesting how you managed to perfectly colour everywhere on the deep blue section, I make mistake anytime I try this, but wow this one is totally splendid if you ask me.
I love the beauty and the jellyfish seems some how like a squid from a separate angle. How long did it take you to finish all the process?

It's awesome involving your daughter too.

Thanks a lot, @josediccus! I'm glad you like it :) To fill the darker parks I didn't use so much paint,I used only few spots, then I had to be quick while it was still wet and I used a lot of water on the brush to achieve a smooth gradient.
It took about two and a half weeks when I painted about one or two hours a day. Thanks again!
