My Final Piece for ART EXPLOSION WEEK 27: Theme TECHNOLOGY

This wonderful contest of #artexplosion hosted by @juliakponsford and judged by @vachemorte was really an inspiration to me. I have recently done a few other contests and have found myself sketching and creating the female figure in moments of myth and spirit. Thus, when I see this weeks #artexplosion theme of Technology I really had a think. Being a bit of a romantic and lover of antiquity I wanted to approach technology how I'd see it.
This representation of Technology shows my hopeful look to the singularity. Are we the robots, are they us are WE the machine or THEY US? I wanted to think that as things become more merged with technology and more magical and beuatiful things could become a simple VR headset or mouse click away, that a future of light and colour might be as much a possibility as one of dark war and robot domination.
As is usual for me, I had to put an animal in. I am surrounded by animals myself and have always felt an affinity with the animal kingdom, so I had to have my mythical Spirit if Technology, being an amalgamation of Spirit, Angel, Human, and Machine also be amazed and fascinated by the animal world and Nature.
I worked quite a bit on this piece, so I am going to share the process in a later post as I just want to get this posted before tomorrow's deadline. As usual I start with sketches and then digital watercolour studies before inking and then blocking out sections in digital oil and finally fine tuning the details in layers of digital oil.

When I first saw it I thought perhaps as she moves into nature she is becoming more human and starting to feel emotions when seeing the beauty of the butterfly, maybe I'm wrong but very nice piece :)
No, that is kind of what I was thinking as well, but even were I not, that is what I LOVE about art is it is like a fun 'open ended' novel for the viewer to see and live in and tell their version of it. I'm glad you like it. I think I might be inspired to do some more in this vein. I also thought it'd be a cool scifi book cover :)

I like the other painting too but there is so much negative space in it that I don't know if the line work is there for me to do. But this - this is really good for my particular process. To be truthful, I think I prompted the colab because I liked her so much. I just want to get my hands on it and dig in. - Specially around the neck parts and shoulder and collar fringe. Now that my computer is some what working again, I can catch up on some promised portraits. But I would like this as an on going side project for a while. Don't wanna put a deadline on it, as any type of real pressure just makes me procrastinate ha ha. What do you say? The works already done on your end, I am just gonna barf my style all over it. Again you may hate what I do... lol I don't know what type of stuff you are really into but I think you know my work at this point. It really wouldn't be too much removed from what she looks like now I just want to really go in section by section. Treat it like a little artist puzzle project if you will.

OK cool - I will do little updates maybe every 2 pay cycles - as that just gives me time to still hit up contests and community stuff that might pop up too. It is gonna be slow going ha ha.

Would love to do traditional line work over some of your colored paintings sometime - if you ever wanna collab I would encourage you start something and me complete it in a stylized line work - bringing our styles together to make a little art baby. We might love it - we might hate it but we could try it and find out.

That sounds really cool, sure I'd love to. I love Steemit for that reason, collabs and our great art community. I'm out all day tomorrow, but let me look at your words and see what I come up with. Then I'll post what I have for you to take and add to it? We could tie in the creative commons license thing as well, it'd be a true Steemit collab. Mabye we could even do one and have more and more artists add to it. I'm Game!

Sounds good, I just got home after a busy day out and about ( I am usually an at home hermit so I need to recover from social activity ;) ) but I will really think about doing a piece tomorrow to get something like this rolling. It really would be cool to get other artists hands involved! I want to continue to encourage the artist community on here as much as possible.

Gorgeous image. It is fascinating to study the new hybrid technologies. Between biological machines and cyborg extensions, grown body parts and remote controlled chimera animals; something tells me the future humanoid will be very different from today.
So true, and 3d printed human skin and organs to boot! As well as computers in contact lenses. We will reach a point when we say, 'when does human end and machine begin' it will be a blurry line for sure.
They are already working on linking the computer and the brain. It is bizarre.
We are living in amazing times, that is for sure. One wonders how the singularity will happen and most like it has already begun.
