Travel Pro Art #7: Stained Glass Windows of the Historic Basilica Gothic Cathedral in Quito Ecuador! Part Two (9 photos)

in #art7 years ago

Hey there my Steemit friends. When I paid my two dollar admission into the Basilica Gothic Cathedral I thought I'd just walk around quickly take some photos and be on my way. That certainly was not the case I really enjoyed looking at all the stained glass art.

It was a real sunny day and as you can see in the photos the sun was really making these colored windows pop! I'm not a bible buff but it's pretty clear that each one of these works of art depicts some scene straight out of the holy book.

It's funny to think back on my other art posts, like the ones in the hippy beach town of Tong Sai where I was just a couple short months ago. What a difference. There certainly are no stained glass windows of Bob Marley with a massive spliff hanging from his mouth here!

Ecuador in general is a totally different vibe than Thailand. We are on the complete other side of planet, where the populous eats different food, speaks a different language, has a totally different culture, different style of government, and certainly a different religion which is well represented in these stained glass windows of the Basilica Gothic Cathedral! Now come along and let's have a look!

Haha ! thanks Dan !! So glad you like my little bitmojis ! they are a lot of fun !💕✌👍😀

Absolutely gorgeous stained glass windows. How old would this church be?

They began construction on it in the 1880s. So that would make it pretty darn old!

Do you have any idea when the church was built? My first guess would be late 19th century.

Spot on. It was the late 1880s. Good question. Glad to see you here again. Hope you are well. -Dan

Ecuador is a beautiful place, also has alot if churches mostly catholic, nd the people there are most welcoming and nice. I have about four friends there, living together. They took me on s virtual tour last December 😁😁.. Glad to hear u had a great time there my friend

Although I'm not a Christian I love cathedrals so much. Thanks for these amazing photos! I went to Duomo di Milano two years ago and it is so fantastic. All the best.

I agree you don't have to be one religion or another to enjoy a historic place like this. Thanks for the comment. -Dan

Stained glass!! I've always had a thing for stained glass though I can't exactly explain why. Your photos are certainly one of the reasons why. These are very beautiful. The colors are all so vibrant and if I were here, I'd spent hours just staring into them.

Thank you so much for the nice comment. Yes I spend more tim than anticipated staring at them and photographing them as well. I've got one more part three post of these windows coming down the pike. Thanks again! -Dan

Thought you did too. Can't help staring right?😊 Will be on the look out for your next post. Keep steeming and good luck!

Thank you so much :)

They're incredibly vibrant. Love the Marley reference. There aren't any of him in that pose but there should be :D

Ha ha. Thank you so much. Glad to see you enjoy my article as well as the photos. Hope to see you again soon. -Dan
