Sea Rocks
A day by the sea
Today, I revisited the rocky Brittany coastline in France, that I drew on Saturday. This time I stood in the water and made a sketch of the rocks. There was a beautiful combination of colours, the grey and orange colours of the rocks against the green algae on the rocks. The gentle motion of the waves was swaying me as I drew, I wonder if this energy shows in the lines of the drawing?
After I had finished my sketch I came out of the sea and I sat on the hot sand, and added watercolour to my drawing. Well I wasn't going to attempt to paint standing in the sea as well!

It's awesome to see what inspires you for your drawings! And I think it's so cool to see you in your creative atmosphere, with the rocks, the sand and the water. :)
I try to paint outside as much as possible- weather permitting. The light is better and I think the atmosphere makes its way into the work.
That's great! Wherever you need to be to create masterpieces. :)

I often travel from Calais to Dover, having magnificent views over the shorelines. I always come by car, so as to drive easily towards the coastline and explore. You've done a marvellous job with this sketch, right on location as it should be. Greetings from a fellow coastline admirer.

This is lovely @opheliafu, it reminds me of painting the coast, the water and rocks are so ephemeral you can't help but paint expressively. If you're UK based you should plan a trip to Wales and paint our amazing rock formations and bays :)
I am UK based, and I have been to Wales, which part would you recommend for painting?
I would definitely recommend Ogmore by Sea, otherwise known as Southerndown, I've done some drawings I absolutely love there. I'm going to Pembrokeshire tomorrow, I've heard Skomer Island is a sight to behold so taking my paints. I would also say Penarth near Cardiff for the cliffs, pebbly beaches and pier (really pretty pier). St Fagans is also excellent, I prefer painting the gardens as they seem to be permanently in bloom.
I went to Pembrokeshire last year, and I have been to Penarth too. I like Tenby and the beaches near there. We have been on the North and West coast too a couple of times for short vacations.

Yes I painted it sat on the sand.... but I drew it stood up to my knees in water in the sea!

I had to retreat to the shade by midday- far too hot. Luckily that 'shade' was a creperie!
