My Fractal Mandalas Adult Colouring Book - First Reveal!

in #art6 years ago

After a long time keeping this secret, I've finally decided to do this post.

For many weeks now, I have been secretly creating black and white fractal mandalas, with the intention of compiling them all and self-publishing a book on Amazon. I'm going to show off a few examples here.

I'm really, really excited about this! =) It has been hard to hold it all back from you guys.

“Mandala simply means “center and surroundings”. That is what we see in a mandala – a circle that contains a square…The practice of a mandala is simply to place ourselves in the middle of it and learn to relate with the social structure and atmosphere around us as a sacred environment."

-- Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche

My first question to you all is, what was your first reaction when you saw the mandala above, and now see the mandala below? What did you think? How did you feel? I ask because your answers will help me in future creations.

And my second question is, would you be willing to pay for a colouring book with 60 of these mandalas, and how much would you be willing to pay? This is my first time I am trying anything like this, so I'm doing my homework, here and elsewhere ;)

Proof of work:

Also, as usual, here is a screenshot proving that I am not stealing this work from anyone:

And finally, here are a few more samples... ;) ... I've done over 30 of them and I'm still deciding how many I'll have in the first book (yep, I want to do a second one! There is SO much variety in the formulae combinations!) :

So yes, please do let me know what you think. I know I'm a bit late for the Adult Colouring Book craze, but I think I may be on to something here because I've never seen any mandala designs quite like mine.

Just a reminder...: All my Monday Mandala designs and other artwork are for sale. See Mandelsage.com for details ;) ... And I am open to doing commissions too!

Before using bidbots, consider that they are bad for the long-term health of the Steemit ecosystem, and that many manual curators will not consider posts using bidbots for curation. Instead, try joining communities, engaging authentically, and earning more and more organic votes over time =) ... The best post I've found explaining the terrible bidbot situation is by Luke Stokes - click here to go to his post.

Sort:

Well, the first one is lady parts and the second is birds and fu manchu warriors.

I would buy one of those for my wife, but I don't know what I would pay for it. Maybe $10-$15. I don't know what that sort of thing was worth.

If it was being sold for Steem or SBD I would like that.

lol! .. I didn't see the lady parts and now I can't stop seeing them! ;P

Thank you for the input! .. I'm really not sure yet how much I'll price it but feedback like this and some research into other books' prices with be needed. 10-15 sounds pretty reasonable. Maybe 12.99

And yes, I'd love to sell them for Steem too! Hopefully Amazon will start accepting crypto sometime soon.
But I'll probably order a few myself and sell them as special signed copies for which charging Steem will be easy =)

P.S. Thank you too for the MinnowSupport upvote!

Ooh these are beautiful- and obviously the word mandala is out there attacking all our brains at the moment, as I've done a post on designing one today... nothing near as awesome as your beautiful fractal designs though.

I've done a bit of research into creating colouring pages, and one thing I did think is that the firs one may have a bit too much grey space for colourists, where the others are cleaner white- great for taking the colour.

Also, I think colourists do love a good bit of detail, and would be happy to spend hours on one design, so never fear about the size you go for - though perhaps you might consider including pages with more than one design on- and have them smaller- for those colouring moments where you want to fit 15-20 mins in around housework etc.

Very best of luck with your project.
One final thing - individual PDF colouring downloads for sale on Etsy are also a great way of getting your work out there without the outlay of setup costs. Have a look see what you think!

Thank you for this wonderful comment. The only way you could have made it better would have been with a video comment ;P ...

Your idea of putting two designs on one page is great! It would be hard to choose which ones though. And indeed, I had thought about the grey areas... I'll be going over all mandalas before finalising everything so I'll fix them then ;)

And I'll check out Etsy too!
Thanks again! Will check out your mandalas tomorrow morning! Must sleep now o/

Awesome idea about the video comments- but frankly I struggle enough videoing myself for posts- don't think I'd ever leave comments if I had to film them ;)

Wishing you the very best of luck with your mandalas- will follow with interest. E x

looks interesting !

Each page would probably take forever to color, but the end results would certainly be unique and beautiful !

Ooh, that is actually something I need to think about... Size of the pages! ... I want them big enough for the details to really show, but not too big that it'd be a pain for people to colour ;P ... Though I think the kind of people who do these might not mind about it taking long...

Beautiful, Sign me up for the 1st copy!

=D .. Thank you @magiccleatus, I'll remember that ;) .. And btw, sorry for not participating in recent weeks - I've been busy, but I really like the most recent one and am gonna try doing it tomorrow =)

These mandala's are simply wonderful ... and yes I would pay for them. But, I have to say .. here in the netherlands we got a store called Action, and there you can buy this kind of coloring books for maybe 3 euro, mostly less then that. So what I would pay is not that much ...

Not that they are not worth to pay more for them!

Thank you Hetty! This is exactly the kind of feedback I'm in search of.

Yes indeed, and I checked Amazon too - it seems the average price for Adult Colouring books on there is 6-7USD .. But I do feel like my mandalas are pretty unique (some of the cheaper ones on Amazon really look quite generic) and people would be willing to pay a bit more for a book full of them ;) Especially collectors of these types of things... I'll have to see =)
